Right guys and girls!
I'm probably going to be selling the car soon as I just dont use it enough.
I would like to replace the SV for something a bit bigger.
So I'm after some recommendations, experiences of bikes you've owned before would be helpful.
I do have a criteria to help narrow things down:
I dont really like bikes with lots of plastics (expensive to repair).
I will be commuting to central London in rush hour.
I will do a fair amount of motorway miles.
Easy maintenance.
I've looked at the XJR1300 before, but it just looks a brute of a bike! ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Gah! Forgot that bit. Erm, £3k-£4k, could push a bit further for the right bike/deal. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

I was going to suggest ER-6f, but they're still twins and probably just a little quicker than than the SV.
If you can stretch a bit further or perhaps find a used one, the CB1000R looks really good (IMO) and should offer a substantial performance advantage.
Depends if it's your cup of tea though I suppose. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

XJR is pretty easy to handle. Even better is the CB1300, although a bit duller, they do have a half fairing option. I'm assuming youre concerned by the physical size due to being small in stature, if so I weigh 9stone 4lbs at 5"7 and found them both no problem.
CBF1000. I know they arent popular or amazingly modern. Very solid bikes which are very fast and predictable, I'd buy one if I was in that market.

Well, I'm off Friday to have my eyesight tested by the DSa (long story!).
If all is OK, I'm going to have a root about South London. I have my eye on the BMW R1150 R, or ideally the Rockster. Both look pretty nice and should be reliable with the boxer engines.
Anyone else got one, or ridden one? ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

What do you regard as a "fair amount of motorway miles"? ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Is that in one journey, or spread out over the month? If it's spread out, it's only about 20-25 miles a day, which is doable on anything bigger than a C90
Thought about a Divvy 900? Fairly slim, only half faired, and full of shafty goodness. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

They are going to be a couple of trips, so about 150 miles in one go. It's more than do'able on the SV. I rode up to Birmingham on it in the pissing rain earlier this year, but it was just bloody uncomfortable! ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Ducati Multistrada?
Or what about a KTM adventure?
The obvious choice is a BMW GS650 or a newish transalp. But the obvious choice is always boring! ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n -> Honda CBR600RR -> Honda VTR 1000 -> Moto Guzzi Norge 1200

Well, I've done a spot of hunting. Also, to add into the mix I might be changing job involving travelling.
Bikes I've looked at are not really ideal now.
I might be taking a job in Guildford, meaning a ride something like:
Urban (SE London)>Motorway (M25)> Urban (Guildford)> Country Lanes (Dunsfold)
I fell in love with an R1150 GS, but really dont want to be a Ewan/Charlie wannabe. Shame really, as it was fully loaded with all the accessories and a full luggage set. £5,700, but a bit out my budget.
I've also looked at a Fazer 1000, a bit of a faring might be wise with the mileage. I guess my main concern this time of year is crappy country lanes that probably don't get gritted! ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |
