Hey guys...i know im rarely making threads anymore on here...cant really get on here from work in the day.

My mate came over with his beamer and we gave the cars a clean and took some shots with his camera. He has got quite a meaty camera, no idea what it is, i just know its Canon, big and its digital.lol

(As a side question, how do i know what alloys fit my car and where can i look on the net for some?)

Anyways here's some pic from the other day...

Nice piccies Mr. Green

You are looking for a 4x100 PCD stud pattern I believe- most older water cooled dubs are anyway. I cant remember off hand what the centre bore is though. I know older RWD Vauxhalls are the same, 'cos I've got a set of Opel Manta alloys on my polo. FWD newer Vauxhalls are the same stud pattern but the centre bore is a tad smaller. The wheels will go on, but require a good thwack to get off again (dont ask how I know this...)

Somewhere there's a website that tells you what manufacturer's wheels are compatible. I'll try and find it in a bit.

BBS' for the win though Wink

Hi

Not many Scirocos around still.

Found this with the list of various wheels:-

https://www.carlsalter.com/wheel_fitments.html

You also need the offset to be in the right range. Depending on which way the offset is out you might be able to use some spacers (eg, looks like VW use an offset in the range of 35~42mm, and the mentioned Manta wheels appear to be 25mm offset, so should have ~10mm spacers).

All the best

Keith

Keep the steelies. They are alloys anyway Wink , will no doubt weigh less, be better balanced, and allow the use of a more preferable tyre profile than any aftermarket alloys you can buy, unless you spend a huge wad of cash and get good quality lightweight wheels.

Your handling will suffer if you put bigger wheels on. Plus it won't look anywhere near as cool. Thumbs Up

You think?!
I was thinking a fairly normal size set of deep dish black rims would look really nice.
Why would handling be worse? Thicker tyres, harder driving?

Hi

Likely deeply dished wheels would have a massive negative offset and screw the handling up that way (throw all the geometry out), while going down greatly on the tyre profiles will screw up the ride and also interfere with the grip (suspension will be specced taking into account the movement in the stock tyre walls).

All the best

Keith

But it'll look awesome Thumbs Up Mr. Green

Offset is probably wrong on the manta wheels but they fit ok and dont hit owt so they are staying as is- they are a fair bit wider than the standard polo steels anyway, spacers and they'd poke out the arches.

Oh yeah, you need stretched tyres too Killa. Scene points.

You could have a look around for a set of original 'Scala' type wheels, they are 14" and came fitted to my first Scala injection, also fitted on the Golf cab(IIRC):
https://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj243/Andy_B_photos/scala_pearl.jpg
I put a set of 15" OZ multispokes on my first Scala, and it vastly improved the handling characteristics of the car.

Unless you are stingy like me and cant afford £400+ for some wheels I'd agree.

Mine were £80...

The Scala wheels are nice. OEM stylee Thumbs Up

Yeah the price isn't quite right unfortunately.

I also forgot you have to slam it to the floor and put the rear wheels at a ridiculous camber with some too-small tyres Cool

Yeah wasnt looking to spend an awful lot really, just wanted some cheap black deep dish alloys.
I cant see how the handling would become that bad TBH, id imagine a harder turning circle at almost standstill but driving would be fine id of thought. Thinking could be wrong

Imagine overinflating your bike tyres. That would be the same effect on grip. Handling itself is upset as the centre of the contact patch would no longer be anywhere near where the suspension design expects it to be.

All the best

Corrected Thumbs Up

I'll echo mistergixer's suggestion. OEM or nothing else. The Scala wheels look good. It's a cheap (though cool) runaround so unless you intend on spending a vast wodge of dosh on it to turn it into a clean, mean, show winner, just keep it standard.

Stretched tyres look naff, good way to wreck a good tyre (expensive).

Not a bad Rocco, I hate the looks mind, corrado is much nice looking.

And if you want some nice rims get some old school porsche rims.

Good luck on finding a set for less than silly money though.

Nice rocco!

Got 2 Corrados myself so i know all about looking for the 'right' wheels.

I think a nice set of ATS Cups would look good, have a scoot round ebay or Edition 38 for a second hand set.

No-one who thinks a 'rado is prettier than a 'rocco is entitled to an opinion on anything Razz

I think stretched tyres look pretty cool, but that's just my opinion and I know they are bad for the handling etc etc. But since when has the VW scene been about anything but posing Cool ?

The Corrado's in a different league though McGee. For some reason the Corrado over in the UK is seen as a rare super car almost.lol
Anyways for my first car i think the Rocco is wicked, the UK is a skank for anything 4 wheels, its a shame.

garth wrote:

How much for the set?

So if stretching the tyres makes it worse handling, does slamming it mean its almost impossible to drive?

My polo is just lowered 60mm on lowering springs/ matching shocks and it was much nicer to drive on the standard wheels/ tyres, although I haven't driven it far on the new ones. I'd guess on coilovers it's much nicer again.

That said, Polos handle terribly standard anyway. And I was used to a Land Rover beforehand so wasn't fussed about the loss of comfort, it still feels like I'm driving a sponge...
