Any bikers that come through on the north Embankment might want to take a different route today.

I saw five bikes pulled up just past Westminster Bridge and a butt load of police and police bikes. Asked a security guard what was going on - apparently they were pulling all bikes going past and giving them a complete going over on a rolling road, and checking registration, plates, everything.

There is a police HQ near there, maybe they're doing some training - or it's just that time of year.

Does that mean you get a free dyno run Very Happy

Honestly though, would be a bit annoying to be stopped and have everything gone over - possibly making you late for work, just because they are having a training exercise.

Also pisses me off when they exclusively target bikes...

Are they saying the millions they spent on APNR etc... was ineffectual and they need to stop every one on a bike?

There aren't any license limits on bhp for car drivers so kinda defeats the point...

Well no I see your point, but they only need stop the ones who are supposed to be restricted, not all bikes, and surely they can know that from the APNR report.

I realise it'd mean getting a report almost immediately and cross-checking that with the rider's id, but I don't think that's expecting too much from a well funded police force is it?

Small plates and loud cans are almost self evident, and so once again they wouldn't need to stop all bikes. I seem to remember the police saying they'd take a pragmatic approach to plates and cans.

From what I've understood is they don't. All they get is taxed, insured and MOT'd (I believe). They don't get details of what vehicle it is or anything else (not even distinguishing from bikes or cars).

But that's as far as I understand it Razz And it may be wrong. It probably is...

What he said! - It won't show any details of who the driver is.

Yeah, right okay so dyslexic typo aside, I know what APNR is used for.

However, I also thought with the new joined-up databases that the government departments and services were using that they'd actually be doing something cost effective with them.

I mean if your MOT/RFL/Ins/DVLA are all related and they're picking up the plate then they know who the registered owner/keeper is, like using PNC.

Hypothetically an APNR check point should be able to qualify whether the vehicle has valid: MOT, RFL, insurance if one of these are incorrect the vehicle could be stopped. Clearly if you have a small plate and APNR doesn't work you've obviously got something to hide and should be stopped anyway because you "must" be a criminal.

Then in conjunction with PNC you'd have a good probability that the rider/driver was also the registered keeper. In questioning the rider/driver you'd also be able to discern whether they were the owner/keeper. Simple questions such as "is this your bike, sir/madam/miss (delete as appropriate)?

Then you could check their licence and then ascertain whether a dyno check was necessary.

Going back to the OP it strikes me as a bit wasteful, if not discriminatory to stop every bike, and "giving them a complete going over on a rolling road, and checking registration, plates, everything" Why?

Why does the need exist to do this? Is there not enough information? And I acknowledge that a few will slip through the net as it were but policing is a percentages game anyway.

Quote:
"what's really impressive is that it can rapidly match intelligence to what is happening on the street. We can use other agency databases from a variety of sources. This technology can literally match that intelligence and can alert you when a suspected vehicle is in the vicinity. It is easy to share intelligence between police forces, which is a real bonus." He went on to say that "it can be perceived as a bit Big Brother-ish. But if your car is taxed and insured and not being used for criminal purposes, you have everything to gain from this technology. We only use it to target the people we are interested in."

They will circumcise you... they'll chop of any length that's proportional to how far over the 33bhp limit your bike is... so if you're riding any 600cc superspors, you won't have a knob at the end of the day.

... chances are they'll do you with driving without accordance to your license, which is 3-6 points... THat's IF they're not pedantic and go into the technicalities.

How's the cops down in london like since i heard they were clamping down on dodgy plates in NW london? I haven't been down in a while, so i guess the only questionable thing on the bike is my full system - everything else is kosher (plate & tax etc).

Bend you over and steal your bike. Don't admit to it being over 33hp, ever.

I hear they have a new lead on the Ripper murders, he was wearing a black cape and riding a 1898 Minerva. the bike stopping is just an ongoing case.

Look mate I rarely do this, but "witty" retorts aside why don't you add something constructive to the discussion, instead?

Are the police capable of using the supposed joined up databases via ANPR not?

What exactly do YOU think is the whole point of ANPR?

Why spend £15 million on a scheme that can just automatically read a number plate unless you're going to do something sensible and cost effective with it?

To my mind having coppers stood at the side of the road pulling everyone, is not cost effective.

And just in case you're "not getting it" I'll repeat the quote:

Quote:

ANPR apparently was made for the soul intent on catching non taxed and non insured drivers, both being flagged on ANPR, the age checking license thing also wouldnt work unless they had a way of the anpr picking up on license type as a over 21 year old can still do a restricted test.
