My bike got revesed into today whilst parked in a m/c bay outside my school.
It was seen by two guys in a van.

Two building site workers sat in a van in front of the bike bay, when they hear a bang (bike falling) and a car speed off. They got out the van and one of the guys managed to get the number plate of the car.

I come out at break and a guy in the year below me says someone has hit my bike and a traffic warden has the details of the car. (builder told traffic warden)

The problem thats worrying me most right now is the witness doesnt want to give me his details. He says he didnt see the guy actually hit the bike but it was obvious he did.

Ive been to the police station and reported it, got an incident number.

The car Arrow MAROON VOLVO S60 T SE

The damage Arrow Snapped clutch lever, scratched mirror, scratched headlight fairing, scratched main fairing, scratched middle fairing, scratched tail fairing, scatched front indicater, smashed rear indicator, scratched bar end, bent handlebar (i think) and scratched tank.

Write off?

Please advise on what to do.

Appriciate any help. Thumbs Up Karma

unfortunately I think its going to have to be a case of take it on the chin and fix it yourself barring the fairings it should be a cheap repair....

And without a CSI lab there is little chance of winning in court since it becomes a his word vs my word thing without any video evidence....

actually scout around local shops council and the college/school for CCTV footage be quick as many are erased after 15 days, and request it , if they have video evidence and the person isn't using fake plates/ cloned plates you can call the DVLA.

Pay them £2.50 get the address from the DVLA and hand over the footage and the number plate to the solicitor , with video evidence the no win no fee bloke should think kerching (open shut case), and destroy them....

At minimum leaving the scene of an accident
Criminal damage.

I may be able to get a video of him driving away but probably not of the actual collision.

The passenger would not be classed an an independant witness. I'm sure some good BCFer saw what happened as well Question Twisted Evil

Of course it is Rolling Eyes. I'll give you fifty quid for scrap.

Did you give the registration to the Police when you reported it? How about sticking up a notice at school asking if anyone saw it.

It was during class time so nobody would have been outside.

You dont think so?

The fairing alone is £350, fuel tank is about £150 and Headlight fairing is £300

Loads of other big parts. Bike is only worth about £1,100.

remember if you go through insurance you will have increased premiums for the next few years

If you cant get it through the other guys insurance i would be tempted to fix it myself

Lever, handlebars and set of indicators and you are sorted

If you dont get any joy with pinning it onto the driver, I'd also be tempted to get the guys address and cause similar damage to the Volvo. Balaclava and a pushbike. No reg plates incase of CCTV Thumbs Up

Well if you don't want the hassle of getting rid of that bike and then having to buy a new one and trade insurance policies deal with some bloody scratches and use the money for some good? Neutral

The only thing you need to ride the bike is a clutch lever, the indicators (you don't even need them you can take them off) and bend the handle bar back. Or buy a new one.

Guess at cost of repair? No more than 20 quid.

I didnt plan to go through my insurance. (TPFT)
I want to go through his insurance. If the bike is a write off, ill buy it back, repair the necesssary parts and use it. If they decide to repair it, fair enough.

Do you think the insurance company will check for restriction?

Err when I said hassle with insurance I meant changing the policy on your insurance. Ie different bike. Not claiming off your own insurance for someone else's fault? Not that you can anyways...

Whatever the outcome is, i'd be tempted to find out who it was and then go round one dark night and substantially 'modify' their car anyway.

Next to thieves, people who deliberately drive off after trashing someone else's vehicle deserve everything they get. God, i hate that so much. Ball-less wankers.

UPDATE.

So as I said I got a witness.

Arrow I told the police.

Arrow The police went to see the Volvo driver where he admitted full liability.

Arrow I called his insurance, got my local garage to pick up my bike (at his cost) and inspect it.

Arrow Got a courtesy bike from his insurance.

Arrow They sent an estimate to the insurance company.

Arrow Insurance company wrote it off (told you Laughing )

Arrow Called me and offered £600, I said no. They kept going up until £1350. I said £1350 and I keep the bike. (I paid £1000 for it)

Arrow They agreed.

I bought a Tzr while the claim was going so my plans are to repair and sell the Rs and keep the Tzr.

Thanks again to all those that helped. Thumbs Up Karma
