Got my old CB1 started this morning (had to jump it to do it) and the battery doesnt seem to hold a charge. I have heard somewhere that if they are allowed to discharge completely then they are gubbed. Is this true?

Each time a car/bike battery loses it's charge it does do it in.
However, so does the cold - batteries do tend to be more likely to reach the end of their life in winter.

As above with one exception, AGM batteries dont mind being deep cycled but I doub't you have one of those fitted unless you fitted it yourself.

I used to buy new batteries ever year (bike wasn't used when at Uni). This year i tried an Optimate and it recovered a 100% dead battery and it's still ok.

Weigh up the costs of a new battery V's giving your old one a good session with an Optimate.

If you don't want to buy one, try and get your local shop to charge yours or borrow someones.
