Just bought a DV cam a few weeks ago and have just started playing about with video editing on my PC. However I am just after a few recomendations regarding the encoding side of things as most of my stuff will be online so needs to be as small as posible without losing too much quality (if thats posible?)

I curently have Ulead Video Studio 6 (crappy free thing), Adobe Premier 6.5 (way out of my depth at the moment!) and Quicktime Pro 6.5.1

The first thing I have encoded is a 13 minute clip of last weekends straightliners at elvington. At the moment I have turned it from the high resolution 2.6gb file into a 128mb mpeg2 and a 98mb mpeg4.

The quality isn't to bad, but as I'm new to this do you think I am going to get it much smaller or a better resolution? Is there a better way to be encoding it with or a better file type to be saving it as?

Cheers

Dave

I use Windows Media Encoder 7.1 and the associated WMV codecs. Usually do two versions of each... a lo-res hi compression one for low bandiwdth users and a 640 x 480 or similar with less compression one for those on broadband.

Have a google for Windows Media Encoder and it'll find the M$ download site. Apparantly the 7.1 version is better than the latest ones.

I can highly recommend Sorenson Squeeze - compresses most stuff to anything! Thumbs Up
