My first thought was "he's shooting like a foreigner", then I realised his finger wasn't on the trigger, then I realised he was being shot at, then I thought where the fuck is his helmet?

I assume it's a journo (photographer) taking the picture of his peers, so they're not all soul-less, though he's not helping the fella either.

Life is cheap especially when it's not western, "xtian" or white.

I saw the link on another forum, some of them are pretty cool Cool

The american guy getting shot is pretty stupid for not wearing a helmet, but if you look 'further down' the picture, there is another one not wearing a helmet Confused

The world doesn't hate journalists.

Would you rather live in a sugar coated Utopia where you're protected from the harsh realities of what happens in the rest of the world? It's a genuine question. It's not as if the person in question is alive, injured, in pain, and being ignored. There are obvious moral questions though, which I understand.

Most people are familiar with this picture, the subject of which is a girl scarred by napalm in Vietnam. This award winning picture had much more impact than a written report ever would have done.

I agree. We sometimes need to see photos of dead iraqi toddlers and screaming vietnamese children in order to understand how utterly shit war can be. It hurts to see the images, but maybe if the likes of george bush and tony blair were made to look at them some more then that little iraqi kid might still be alive.

Nick whilst I'd like to agree with you, and in part I do, I think Bush and Blair are the kind of unilateral decision makers who would not have been dissuaded by anything.

Never forget Bush and Blair prayed together and their god told them it was okay...

The Vietnam picture profoundly affected my opinion of war as a child and contributed to my attitudes as an adult, but I'm not the one in power or seeking it.

I'm not going to get all wishy-washy and liberal (though I am) but, if everyone was motivated by those kind of pictures, there'd never be any new ones.

As a journo it's your job to bring what's happening to the people at home. Sure they could help, but they know for every 1 person they help there are another 10 people dying. They can have a bigger impact by taking the photo than they can by saving the one life.

Unfortunately what has happened with the Iraq war and on a far greater scale with the Vietnam war is stupid fuckwits mainly "been nowhere, done nothing" students targeting soldiers with a abuse rather than the government that sent them after being feed images that they do not understand.

I agree with you Lee, i guess wishful thinking played a part in what i wrote there.
Bush and Blair (and Mugabe, Hussein and Hitler) and others like them, seem to be incapable of any humanity whatsoever.
All i can really say is that seeing those images angers and saddens me, knowing that this kind of stuff goes on all the time and always will.
Buts thats life i guess.
At least after January im not going to be seeing Bush's stupid little face on the tv much anymore. Dance!

Agree, as with all the other comments making this point, it;s the only reason I watched videos of hostages getting their heads sawn off with a sword by Taliban/Al-quaeda/Pick your terrorist group kindnappers. Certainly the most distrubing thing I've ever watched in my life and made me feel very ill, when asked by friends why the hell I was watching such shit I just said that I don't think it's right to pretend it doesn't happen and ignore it. They should show that shit on the evening news, right around tea time, perhaps it would make more people want to take affirmative action against the countries raping of another's resources.

Silver, how do you know he's not dead?

There are no signs to tell you either way that he could or could not be helped.

Because the caption quite cleary states that the man was injured after police had fired rubber bullets, which generally aren't meant to kill, although I am aware it says 60 people were killed, whether that was by rubber bullet or not is not expanded on.
