He just got his car licence back, so he doesn't need the bike he has been riding illegally due to having no bike licence, as it's the same thing.

Laughing

Edit : The front looks like a Gilera DNA, which to be fair is embarrassing.

Is it possible for a 1000cc NA engine of that description to produce that much power?

I am thinking that more like 150 is passable. I doubt the yankee bikes have different gearing? do they?

Kickstart's heavily modified Bandit 12 probably has that much power (its a naked bike capable of 200mph), and the bandit 12 uses a 15 year old engine design.

If you let him stick a fairing on it , I'd put money on him, the stock bandit 12 gets about 11.7 seconds per 1/4 mile , the GSXR1000 does it in 9.9.

I didn't think Kieth's bike is heavily modified - just thought it had a full system and a bit of head work.

It certainly isn't capable of 200mph - think he's only done 180 on it. It was a ZX12 he cracked the double ton on.

Hi

Think lllN30llls GSXR1000 managed about 175hp (pretty good). The one in the advert is older, and it wouldn't susprise me if the exhaust on it has lost it a load of power. Personal guess would be it would manage about 140hp.

As to my Bandit it makes ~150hp, and the best top speed it has managed is 181.8mph (and that was on a day with a favourable tail wind, mid 170s in neutral conditions is more normal). Best standing 1/4 is 10.82 seconds.

To be honest for standing quarters the problem isn't power it is using that power (mine will lift the front wheel changing into 3rd quite easily).

All the best

Keith

Skimmed and ported head, reprofiled cams, bored out to 1216cc and with a full Akrapovic system. After that things start to get very expensive. Also has some 40mm flat slide carbs but probably going back to CV carbs soon.

Quite correct on both counts. Playing around with some figures I think it would take about 225hp to get my Bandit to hit 200mph without a fairing. That isn't really realistic on a normally aspirated engine.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Pop along to Elvington some time.

I could bring along the Driftbox if you want to know how quick your bike really is.

Think the difference between your GSXR and the next most powerful bike that day was more than the YSR50 made.

All the best

Keith

put a fairing on it and I bet it'd go easy over 200mph.

Not quite the same thing. But yes, I would have thought it would crack it, not that I'm an expert!

Well you could always have a fast fast super car infront of it with a huge wind sheild too and keep it naked but that would be cheating and the engine would probably melt.

Hi

Not really a hope unless it shrank dramatically. More speed means higher gearing, which would reduce thrust at speed.

Playing with the figures from the last dyno run, gearing, etc, I suspect best speed would be on 16/45 (or 46 or 47, so close to be irrelevant) gearing. Using 'busa aerodynamic figures (cda of 3.36) that would put it at about 183mph in neutral conditions.

Graph here. Red line is thrust, black dotted line is drag.

It has about the same power as a stock old shape 'busa, and it is only when played with quite a bit that they get to 200mph.

It might manage to get to 200mph is it shrank dramatically in size to be squeezed into a Honda RS125 fairing.

That said, when the Bandit managed 181.8mph the speedo needle was pointing down almost towards where 200mph would be if it went that high (last marking is 170mph).

While you can get a lot faster by being towed in something elses slipstream it is pretty much cheating. From memory the speed record for a bicycle is over 150mph when slipstreaming a car.

All the best

Keith

Unless I'm wrong, Keith went on a 1200(ZX-ish?) minus indi's and got 201mph, which was faster than he could get the Bandit to do on that day so........
