I've read a very handy and very useful guide on the 400gb on how to do them and it doesn't seem too hard. Incidentally he also did it on an NC30.

My only question is that if I were to do it and it's not in the tolerances (IE - having to buy new shims) would it be ok to ride the bike (after putting everything back on of course) until the shims arrive and then swap them?

It's just where I live if I don't have my own transport then I'm fucked as to get anywhere because of the lack of public transport and 5 miles away from any town that has transport.

I've got no other bike I can use (apart from my friends 250 but it needs new chain and sprockets and tyres...)

I think it would be ok but I want to double check with the far knowledgeable BCF Smile

Much love.

I would have the new shims ready just in case, it is a pain to do the job once so why do it twice?

I can understand that. But it's not really possible for me unless I get a garage to do it. I've got no other means of transport and I work most days of the week! And It's pointless buying all shim sizes just because...

Phone up a nearby shop to see if they have a shim kit, do it then take a taxi or bus or whatever to the shop and buy whatever shims you need.

Or buy them from davidsilvers via mail order you'll be off the road for 2 days tops , if you put it back together it will take ages and you have to put the gaskets back and have a chance of damaging them.

Doing clearences on the 30 is a complete pain, it's not the sort of thing you want to be doing twice.

Ring up a Honda dealer and see if they've got the shims you may need in stock before you start.
