A couple of weeks ago I tried a zxr 750 going for 1500 euro. It's fairly nicely kitted with race fairings cause it was intended to be a track bike, carbon fibre all over, carbon race can (not sure if it's the full system), rearsets etc. The only thing wrong with it apart from a flat battery from standing around too long is that the front brake seems pretty fooked...
It's not spongy like when it needs bleeding (but I could be wrong). Rather hard, but doesn't seem to do much for the effort Confused
What can this be? Wasted pads? Need bleeding? Worse - Fucked calipers?
I doubt it needs bleeding cause the back brake was top notch... The front brake grip was also snapped (carbon) but it doesn't seem to ride badly.
Anyway it was a little kick in the bollocks when I had a go on it cause I wasn't expecting it to be so heavy, or so powerful! When I accelerated I felt like I got tunnel vision and about 16 orgasms mixed into a can of whoopass Laughing
Anyway what do you think about it? Would you stay far away from a dodgy front brake cause it could cost a fortune or should I be fine?

Calipers are not expensive.

Maybe slightly seized pistons. My FX400 feels a bit like that; but I think that's just dodgy old brakes generally. May well need bleeding; front will have seen a lot more use than the back.

Oh and yes it is heavy, no it's fast (well, compared to a modern 600 with someone that can turn the throttle, anyway Smile ).

Probably a combination of old fluid, with sticky pistons and glazed pads. A complete overhaul should see it right again. You could always look at putting a 10R front end or something in though. Twisted Evil

I will only be using the money I get from selling the Rs 125 to fund the bike. I think a 10R front end is out of the question.
I've been offered a swap for a gsxr 600, and also a thunderace with a bit of difference. I'll go and check those out. Who knows, maybe I love them to bits

Might be barking up the wrong tree with this one, seeing as it was put together as a track bike maybe it's got those pads in that only work well at high temps.

All the best

Various fancy discs are like this I believe, but I've never used any race-compound pads with those properties.

Would you go for it for that price?
Other than that the bike seems pretty tidy, and next year I'll have it as a trackbike anyway cause I'm coming to the UK to study so I won't keep the bike on the road.

At current exchange prices, that could get you an R6, G/J ZX6, SRAD or various other significantly superior bikes, so no, I wouldn't.

Not in Spain Sad
Cheapest R6's are going for 2500-3000 euro.
Srads are around 2000 for a decent one.
Zxrs seem to be the best bet cause they're older and still pack a punch.
I have however been offered to change my bike for a gsxr 600, and also for a thunderace paying a bit of difference. I'll ring them up and ask for more details.
What is the thunderace like?

So take a flight over here and buy a UK bike and ride it back €60 flight and €100 petrol tops, keep it to the back roads and you don't have to pay tolls, Calais to the Spanish border is 1 day hard riding, 2 easy , 3 lazy.

Thunderaces burn a fair bit of oil from new, though.

How much do you reckon it'd cost me to register and tax the bike here?
I'm guessing in the end it wouldn't be worth it unless I found a spanking bike for like 800 quid
