OK, as I have a motard I have decided it's good fun to try and back it in/slide about. Apart from the drive chain/clutch/tyres what accelerated damage is possible?

The toesliders on your boots Very Happy

If you do it right you won't really damage the chain. But if you get it wrong and it ends up being really jerky and 'snaps' back into line after the corner then it will put excessive wear and strain on the chain.

The clutch shouldn't really be affected as you aren't using the clutch to back it in. What you are doing is making the rear wheel spin at a slower speed to the road speed.

Edit - i'm a numpty and made loads of typos Razz

Sadly for those of us that are NOT blessed with slipper clutches ... slipping the clutch is exactly what you need to do!! Razz

Anyway, like with the chain that doesn't get much hard if you do it right, it is the same for the rear shock ... if you are juddering things or near highsiding it a lot, then the shock gets a real work out ...

I'm not making the bike judder as I am slipping the clutch, I've also unloaded the rear completely. I was just curious as to what engine wear would be caused by this.

I manage to stay upright most of the time though. The couriers I know have had more accidents than me! Laughing

is it a 2-smoke?

Especially if it is pre-mix, high revvs 'overrun' is what makes them go pop ... i.e. lots of revvs, not much fuel/oil flow!! Shocked

If it is a 4-stroke, then I can't see it causing any real abnormal problems.

Yes, it's a 4-stroke, fairly sure that due to lack of engine braking locking up the rear would be quite difficult (is it impossible?) on a 2-stroke.

I was considering possible excessive pressure on con-rod bearings/big ends etc...
