Hi all merry xmas.My zxr 400 makes a horrible clunking sound when going through 1st to 4th gear.I dont know if its normal or not?Recently had brand new chain and sprocket and also a new clutch cabel.New chain and sprocket made no difference to the noise but the new clutch cable has quietened it down abit

Thanks

if it's quietened it down a bit by just replacing the cable, you may find you haven't quite got the adjustments correct....

i've not worked on that bike but no doubt there'll be someone along soon to describe the correct method of clutch adjustment for you

Welcome to the world of the ZXR400 clutch. Its a fickle thing. They are renowned for being noisey, and the older and more worn they get so the noise increases.

Usually they function fine despite the rattle, you could try replacing the plates and springs but it may not cure the rattle.
