Kawasaki KX60 of unknown age with a 1984 KX80 engine, hopefully going to be able to pick it up tomorrow, the seller is going to clean it up before I collect.

And the best bit: £100 Mr. Green

I know it'll be small, but it's no smaller than a pit bike and should be a good laugh as a field bike. I've got permission to ride pretty much every field surrounding my village, so not a problem there.

Now my 2 questions:
1) the 80 engine is "a bit of a bodge" but it has been used as it is, runs well and is a good laugh. What kind of thing should I look at as far as making the engine less of a bodge and more likely to last in the frame.

2) I've heard quite a bit about the rear shock bottoming out, but this is from 13/14 stone blokes. Should I have any problem at 10.5 stone?

Also, if I do get problems with the shock, how much would a better one be and how much of hassle to fit to someone pretty competent?

Pics soon

Cheers

I could have, but I've got back into pissing around in fields rather than on the roads. I still have money for a decent sized road bike accumulating, just fancied something to piss about on.

Cheers mate, that's exactly what I bought it for.

Theres a road that people try to beat each other's times on around here, The Banbury to Chipping Norton run. Me and my mate are tomorrow doing the off road version on KX60s from Milcombe about 5 miles into the run, which involves taking whatever route we want and getting there before the other one, involving no roads except farm tracks, private drives, and pushing the bike across anything bigger.

Should be interesting to see how he tries to get there as neither of us know where the gates etc are.

Plus no riding in animal fields, and no riding in the fields owned by a bloke around South Newington, as he will shoot us dead.

You will find most offroad bike chains are like that Wink

When the rear shock is at its full travel (i mean when it is compressed all the way) then the chain will be quite tight. If you tighten it up when the shock isn't loaded, when you go over bumps etc then it will put a lot of strain on the chain and maybe snap it.

Got it the other day, took it out for a little ride and the carb is pissing petrol etc., so gonna pick a new one up tomorrow. Even though the carb wasn't working well, when I got it started it went like shit off a shovel, much faster than I expected.

Vids and pics soon hopefully.

If it was leaking from around the top of the float bowl it could have been as simple as changing the gasket rather than replacing it.

There was only half a float in the carb, it was leaking from the breather and somewhere else.

Plus the new carb is £5, so not really a problem Thumbs Up
