Had to go about 40 miles in the car today, as the Zeph is still sans front forks, and when I got home again it looked like some bugger with a fire hose had sprayed the car with a cream-coloured emulsion at the front and a very dirty grey emulsion at the rear. There's salt crystals laying on the road the size of fscking sultanas. The local councils must have one hell of a surplus of the stuff to get rid of.

Sickening isn't it! I gave my car one hell of a clean this weekend and already it looks like I've driven through the Dakar Rally.

My last 3 cars failed the MOT on corrosion and my current one had an advisory for corrosion setting in! It's killing alot of old cars which is a shame for people who appreciate older cars or just can't afford to buy newer models. Maybe it's Labours idea to try and get everyone paying the higher tax of 2001+ cars Very Happy

Rather salt be down to stop the ice than it causing accidents and even more damage. Perhaps it's time tyo buy cars that don't rot as quick. Wink

Probably to make up for the lack of gritting last time....

And as a side note to make people buy new cars as the salt corrodes them massively , as unlike other countries who use silica we still use salt...

Every post of yours I read from here on in, I'm going to think of you as Anthony Hopkins from The World's Fastest Indian. I can see you being exactly like him, making your own pistons and all sorts Laughing

Pistons? We cast barrels and make our own cams.

It's a real pain in the arse. I'm fully supportive of putting grit down so people don't kill themselves, but in the past three years I've had to replace every section of my exhaust, numerous brake pipes, and now my sump is becoming porous from corrosion. At the end of each winter the roads are white with all the salt they've put down. Next car I get I'm zinc plating the underside!

If they didn't salt the roads as much as they do everyone would be complaining and sueing the council when they come off the road on ice.

We get a lot of rain in this country which dilutes and washes the salt off the roads, or at least to the sides, it needs reapplying regularly to work. At least they're doing it, anyone can see it's icey all week by the looks of things so gritting needs doing and they admitted they had massive stockpiles leftover from lastyear as they didn't need to use hardly any.

That's why I said I support them gritting the roads, and the buck stops at me to get a car that doesn't rust as easily Laughing

And don't use no double negatives Wink

The thing is, it's not rained here for over a week, all they are doing is building up layer upon layer of salt. They were at it again last night, this morning there were little 'snowdrifts' of the sodding stuff up against the kerbs!
