Anyone else having problems with hotmail.

My messenger shows im recieving messages but i cant log-in to read them at all.

I get;

Hotmail has been a pile of shite for ages, unfortunate really as I have liked its convenience for years now. Pay £15 a year for it or something like that.

They have recently updated it yet again (like 2 days ago) to be even crapper, ill thought out, cluttered and badly laid out.

There may be something in this update that has caused you issues.

So called premium account, back in the day I believe they threaten to close a standard it if not used for a period of 30 days, when I was in the Navy this was a potential issue.

You also get more storage space and no ads. I've not looked into it for a few years, but it hardly breaks the bank.

Thanks WG, it seems to work now (better than yesterday anyway). At least its not my internet connection thats at fault, which is what i thought at first.

Ah the So called premium account. This got my goat a little last month as a friend in her late 50's and not so hot with these PC things asked me to setup Outlook as her default e-mail prog ..mostly for the spell checker and she had a legit version. The e-mail addy was a hotmail one..but get this...if you want hotmail to work with outlook (both microsoft products) then you have to pay for the premium account!!!Not so if your using a free or 3rd party e-mail prog or email addy though

I mean FFS they got the money for outlook but want to charge you extra for using it with hotmail..cheeky bastards!! Easy work around was setup a free g-mail account that checks the hotmail account..job done..and free...just goes to prove that microsoft are greedy little gits some times....

Rant over....soap box back under the bed ......

..all the time. I have no love for microsoft, I just find hotmail simple and convenient.

I use it because I don't want to use a program like outlook generally.

You can configure Outlook to deal with HTTP as well you know...erm..apart from hotmail AS THEY CHARGE YOU FOR IT....now why don't you go try it.......

EDIT..oh seems as of a month ago..Microsoft are now including a FREE add on for outlook 2007 so you can use it at NO extra cost...good old MS corp...think they pissed off enough people that PAID for OFFICE that wanted to use existing hotmail accounts

FWIW Google Mail gives you secure encrypted POP and IMAP (via SSL) access, and also has a really cool feature that lets you keep an existing email address but have it work through their servers. So you use GMail to do everything but the address you send/receive stuff with is your old one. So you get the advantages of encrypted POP/IMAP support for using with the client of your choice (although the web interface is good) and Google's fantastic spam filters, whilst not having to change your email address. You also get a huge amount of space that increases all the time. Ah and it's completely free. And nope, I don't work for Google.
