Anyone know much about telephone lines.

I have a new house with a cable coming from a very old bt box which has four coloured wires (Blue with white stripe, Orange with white stripe, White with blue stripe and White with orange stripe)

I have a telephone extension kit with a terminal on the end but the colours dont correspond.

Does anyone know if I am going to need to get BT to update the old box or is there some kind of cenversion from my colour wires to modern colours (like wiring a plug)?

from what i can remember the blue with white stripe and the white with blue stripe are the transmit and the recive wires and the solid orange wire is the bell wire.

you can get a wall socket from B&Q or other places like that and fit it yourself, the blue/w stripe goes onto the pin number 2 and white/b stripe goes onto pin number 5 and the orange wire goes onto the pin number 3

if you get a socket from somewhere make sure its got a ringer inside it, it should say on the packet it comes in

Openreach will charge you in excess of £100 to do anything, as that's the call out fee alone. Smile
