I've always liked Frank Thomas.
My Arlen Ness jacket is smart but the lack of back armour lets it down.

My Frank Thomas jacket is going strong still. Been using it day in day out for well over a year. Still water proof and pretty warm. With little vents for the summer.

Hein Gericke have some good discounts going at the moment too. Well worth a pop in if you've got one local to you.

Dainese jacket, mine is great and survived a 30mph off fine, just minus one popper on the front. Warm and waterproof (gore-tex waterproof)

My Frank Thomas textile jacket wasn't fantastic - it wasn't windproof so cold in winter and lost a bit of stitching and buttons. It let water through after 3 years which wasn't bad going. Cost £110 I think. My Technik jacket I've just bought for £150 is excellent, much warmer and better built, with back protector and loads of pockets. Windproof too Smile

I was in Hien Gericke the other day, they have a bit of a sale on at the mo. They are good quality jackets. Probably better than Frank Thomas. But you pay for the extra quality.

Main thing that drew me to the Frank Thomas jacket was the price, got it for £80. Can't really be happier for that price.

My Frank Thomas Aqua-Force waterproof all season gear lasted me 3 years before it started to leak (at the pockets) which was fixed with some wax and a good going over with tent & Gear proofing (Nikwax). The waterproof boots weren't great though and the Sidi's I bought (and replaced like for like with) are much better.

If they hadn't chopped all my gear up into the worlds biggest jigsaw in the crash then I'd still be wearing it. Smile

Brothers Rev'it jacket looks awesome, got a 3 layer system; insulation layer, waterproof layer and the outside abrasion layer, which I think has some bits you can zip of to make it even lighter. Looks like a good jacket shall have to see how time treats it.

Well I used to like Frank Thomas based on being a reasonable price for a reasonable item.

However, my Frank Thomas textiles with "thermal liners" were absolutely freezing last year so I bought some Hein Gericke windproof liners (leggings and top) and they did the job.

Anyway, the trousers finally died the death earlier this year and I bought a pair of Tricky II trousers from Hein Gericke, they're a genuine GoreTex membrane not some psuedo waterproof thingy.

So far this winter I haven't used the windproof leggings, but I have had to use the windproof top under my Frank Thomas jacket.

In hindsight I now realise it was a false economy to buy cheaper non-GoreTex textiles as with the windproof liners I've spent more than if I'd just bought a GoreTex two-piece from the off.

Therefore my advice, if it has any weight, is buy whichever textiles you can afford and fit, but make sure they are GoreTex. Thumbs Up

Never been keen on Frank Thomas stuff. Had a Frank Thomas jacket first but it was more of a summer thing being quite short and couldn't fit much under it. Then bought Akito stuff for £45 for jacket and trousers and they were pretty good and much safer. They leaked water (even after a 6 mile journey to college) so bought Hein Gerickes cheapest textiles (pretty sure they are Devons or something) and they have been brilliant. After a while they started leaking so I washed and treated them and they have been great soon.

My clover jacket is the only one I've had that has a proper 100% waterproof lining, zip open vents that actually work and cool you down, and a lining so warm, you can get away without anything more than a t shirt on underneath through winter.

My RST, arlen ness, and "syko" jackets have all been inferior or given up the ghost after a little use.

My textile Frank Thomas pants were a good buy and did a couple of hard winters (and crap summers!) but are starting to leak a bit now. I have heard a lot of people slating their stuff though.

Buffalo are decent mid-range, I have a textile jacket which is awesomeness, very warm, dry comfy and plenty of adjuster bits for a good fit each time. Removable liner etc.

Don't bother with the 'budget' range within Buffalo though, I'd look at the £60+ stuff.

My mates run a training school and the instructors wear Buffalo gear all year round, make of that what you will.

Best if money-no-object has to be RUKKA

A guy I used to work with had a RUKKA suit, looked fantastic and he raved about it. Cost over £700 tho.

With a realistic budget, Hein Gericke jackets have always worked well for me.

Frank Thomas make some right crap so choose with care

Aye, Rukka stuff is awesome, but very expensive.

Personally I use Rev-It textiles. I've found them to be brilliant, and because they are Dutch they have long legs for a given waist size compared to most other brands which is great for me.

My Alpinestars Drystar jacket has survived 4 years' of riding now. Mind you, I don't crash much. The right arm, where the armour fits close to the edge of the material still bears some silver Adui paint mind. Wink The zips are still intact, it's still waterproof up to around a 60 mile downpour and I find it warm in winter with the quilted lining left in.

Stinks a little though, but oh well, not bad for the £50 I spent on it through Ebay, expecting it to be in tatters by 6 months. I'd buy another when the stench makes my eyes water.

I'm definitely liking my Aerostich Roadcrafter one-piece, but not sure I'd bother going to the hassle of finding one in the UK just for a normal jacket.

I bought a Hein Gericke two piece suit about 4 years ago, used it loads and its still going strong. Always look for double stitching on all seams, makes it far stronger.

Back then the suit cost me about £550, but it keeps the cold out and the rain off. Small price for comfort, and it looks like a set of leathers. Thumbs Up

Dianese, removable lining for summer and also still after 6 years 100% waterproof.
