Time for a new rear on the TL, and at £100 - 130 odd a pop, I'm not keen on the 2000 - 3000k mileage life expectancy of a soft sports tyre.

I've had michelin pilot road 2's, and conti road attack's on my old 636 in the past, and found them plenty sticky on the road, but would they have enough grip for a big twin like the tl? Would they last long enough to make them a worthwhile compromise?

Im putting a pair of pilot road 2's on my Hayabusa in the next few weeks, they have been reccomended to me by the lads at UKbusas.org and some of them are running silly BHP.

Im sure they will be fine and can return up to 5000 miles for a rear!

If you get them let me know how you find them! Thumbs Up

I've had Pirelli Stradas fitted the last two times on my 7r, which horsepower wise is pretty similar. I used to get approx 2000 miles out of a BT014, but get 5000 miles plus out of a rear Strada.

They're not quite as sticky as the BT014, but I'd say actually better than some road sports tyres I've ridden on before such as Avon Vipersports.

I've heard people recommend Puilot road 2's and Diablo's for milles. Although apparently Road Attacks square off rather quickly on big twins.

I'm about to fit some 021s to my RR. Anyone care to put me off?

The Diablo Stradas are a little more, although I was happy with them on my R6 last year.

021's are good tyres. Good grip in the wet and dry, coped with a trackday fine and so far ive done 6000 miles and there is lots of life left.
I actually prefer it to the 014 that it replaced. Thumbs Up

Pilot Road 2's are pretty good, have them on my FJR and they are bearing up well. Different ride to the bridgestones but sound in wet and dry.

(I have 83,000 miles on the FJR) used alsorts of rubber like Bridgestone 020 didn't like the 021, avon Storm ST was good too but am liking the Pilot Road 2's...

Wasn't the 014 replaced by the 016?

I'm (sounding like a broken record Laughing ) running Pilot Road 2's on my 750 and whilst my tyres are now shagged beyond belief, I managed 9100 miles on the one set. Thumbs Up

The Dunlop Roadsmart tyres are awesome - excellent in the wet and dry - cant fault them - and the number of reviews i have seen about them too in mags are great

I think so, February's BIKE has a small article saying how the BT-016 warms up more quickly, offers more grip, and is currently returning twice the mileage compared to the BT-014.

So do my 015s warm up nearly as quick, offer nearly as much grip and return 75% of the mileage as the 016s?

I've had conti road attack on my Tuono for about 8.5K, in that time I've gone through 2 rears and the one on there now is down to the markers. the front is pretty worn but still legal, the wear is affecting the handling a little bit, neither rear squared off.

when I first had them fitted it took me ages to get used to the change in the handling as they feel different to any other tyre I've ever used. grip has never been an issue wet, dry, warm or freezing cold but I never got my knee down with them on Embarassed and I wouldn't really recommend them

they are due replacing now and if I were keeping the bike I was going to fit either michelin PR2 or the dunlop roadsmarts.

I have used dunlop D220's before and found them ace but they are not a recommended fitment for the Tuono so couldn't put them on there, knee down in feb with them fitted to a ZXR750 Laughing

my Beemer has got a pair of Metz M6 (?) they seem ok but I havn't tried to lean that thing over very far in this shitty weather just yet.

Erm, they didn't discuss that in the article. Embarassed

But, having just re-checked Bridgestone's website I can't see a listing for an "015" so are you yanking my chain?

Incidentally the BT-016 isn't listed either but I think that's because they haven't updated their website.

DUNLOP ROADSMART

use search + Titz as author and there's all you need to know about them. Done 4k miles on mine and look barely worn in!

I'm a big fan of Metzler Z6s for the type of tyre you're looking for, although not sure whether they do them in the right sizes for the TL... Confused

The writing on my walls read BT015. Neutral

I'm just about to change my second rear and first front on them, as they were standard fitment when I got my bike. 4,500 from a rear sounds about average, and they were very good in the wet and dry, summer or winter. But I need a little more mileage than that. Never got along with Dunslops, despite the frequently good reviews - probably just in my head. Peace of mind rules supreme, I think I'll revert back to my beloved Diablos.

Well erm, we live and learn don't we.

I'd never heard of them until you mentioned them, how are they? Wink

Just yanking your chain, you had said they were okay.

How do you get a replacement then? Have to pay Honda prices?

That will be £3,751 for tyres sir, plus £22.50 for fitting, new valve and disposal of your old rubber.

All said with a smile.

You can buy them, they were just developed in conjunction with Honda for the cbr's.

https://www.tyresite.com/product.asp?numPageStartPosition=1&P_ID=811&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&strSearchCriteria=&PT_ID=15

And at those prices they can keep 'em!!

That would be a bit stupid.
