PostPosted: 03:41 - 29 Dec 2008    Post subject: ZZR 600 Restriction Washers? Reply with quote

Hi.

I must have posted this in the wanted section of at least 10 bike forums but I am not having much luck.

I have a Kwasaki ZZR 600 E model but I'm on a 33bhp. I want to either buy the washers second hand or could someone help me out and give me the dimensions for the washers so my bike will make less than 33bhp?

I will probably need to get the washers made up by some engineering workshop as I don't have the tools myself.

It would be alot easier if someone had the washers for sale though.

Please tell me if you can provide me with either the restriction washers or dimensions.

Thanks for any help. Thumbs Up

Have you tried the ZZR owners forum ?

https://www.bikersoracle.com/zzr/forum

Might have something there.

What's the diameter of the inlet?

If you get that you can work out the size of washer needed.

Size of inlet = outer diameter of the washer then

Claimed power = 100bhp(is the actual claimed figure for the ZZR600)

All you do to get the internal diameter of the washer is divide the external diameter (or diameter of the inlet) by 100(for the 100bhp) then multiply by 33(to give the 33bhp you need).

So for example if the inlet diameter is 55mm (for example) then:

55 / 100 = 0.55

0.55 x 33 = 18.15 mm

Therefore the diameter of the washers in our example would be 55mm external diameter, and 18.15mm internal diameter.

You'll need to get your carbs off to check the inlet diameter, or if anyone knows it they could post it up.

You may need a dyno run as proof depending on your insurance though.

Hi

That calculation will not work. Even if you assume a direct corrolation between carb size and power (far from it in reality), it would be based on area not diameter (and in your example you have reduced the area by about 90%).

All the best

Keith

Thanks Keith, I was just going to start writing the same thing and you saved me from doing the sums.

Hi.

I'm still looking for the washers for the ZZR without much luck.

I don't want to have to make them if I can help it.

Thanks for any help.

Another option might be to get a garage to dyno the bike and fit a throttle stop at 33bhp. Keep the dyno printout in case it is ever challenged.
