Ok, laugh if you must, but I enjoy it.

I have a Aprilia SR125 8bhp from 1998. When I got it, just to commute on it only had 3kms on the clock.

I put 500kms on there myself before it was stolen by some grotty kids.

This is how it looked:
https://img81.imageshack.us/img81/816/20080611bikepics1317270il0.jpg

This isn't my bike above, just one with the same paint scheme and in a similar condition to mine after the thieves had their way with the panels. These are simply scuffed though, mine were smashed.

As I enjoy tuning, it already ran premix, had a 172cc Malossi race kit, OKO 28mm carb with manual choke and only ran off the kickstart so when the kids tried to start it, they couldn't, so they smashed all of the panels instead and dumped it.

I recovered it, sat it in my kitchen, stripped it, cleaned everything including the frame and began tuning.

Now the spec is as follows:

+ Malossi 172cc Big Bore Kit
+ 28mm OKO Flatside Carb Manual Choke
+ Custom PM Tuning 'Donkey D!ck' Race Filter
+ Polini Reed Block
+ Polini Carbon Fibre Reed Petals
+ Polini Inlet Manifold
+ Kundo Race Expansion Pipe
+ Malossi Kevlar Belt
+ Malossi Rollers
+ Polini Race Clutch
+ Polini Race Blue Clutch Springs
+ PM Tuning Gold Anodised Race Clutch Bell
+ PM Tuning Boost Bottle
+ HEL Braided Line
+ PM Tuning Engine Hoses
+ NGK Coil + Iridium Race Spark Plug
+ Polished Transmission Cover
+ Gold Anodised Pro Bolts
+ Custom Pulley/Transmission Cover
+ Cut Down N/P Bracket
+ Fibre Lyte Real Carbon Fibre TDH
+ Custom Red Paint Job (Bike Fairing, Transmission, Fan Cover, Barrle Shroud, wheels)
+ Chromed Tail Lights - Not on in Pic
+ LED Tail Light With Indicators Hidden Inside. Not on yet.
+ Oil Tank Removed
+ Oil Pump Removed
+ Running 2% Premix (Super Unleaded and Fully Synthetic only)
+ Only 506kms on the clock!!!
+ 23rwhp on the dyno.
+ All set up by Andy Pearson of PSN Scooters, Batley, West Yorkshire!

23rwhp and the clutch only engages at 6,000rpm!!!

https://img201.imageshack.us/img201/6128/dscf0785wm1.jpg

https://img522.imageshack.us/img522/148/sneakyrt5qo2.jpg

More has been done since these were taken, but I will have to get the old camera out.

Still to do:

+ Seat Recovering - Seat is brand new, as you can Imagine, I just want to change colours Smile
+ Wavy Disc on the Front
+ Cold Fusion Nitrous Kit
+ Maybe Try 34mm OKO flatside Carb
+ Kundo Metal Inlet Manifold
+ Yamaha R1 Rear Shock Conversion (think i can make it fit)
+ TNT Quick Action Throttle
+ Chrome Centre Stand
+ Get it through this years MOT Shocked

As I say, laugh if you must, but I enjoy working on it Smile

Tom

Ah yes, the stunningly clean SRAD that lasted but a few hours Sad

If you are going to get a scooter as a little hack or even project, make it one of the following:

SR125
Gilera Runner 125SP or Runner 180SP
Italjet Dragster 125 or 180
Piaggio Typhoon 125
Piaggio Skipper 125

All of the above share the same engine, an engine that when tuned correctly will do the 1/4 in 11 seconds!

Tom Thumbs Up

23rwhp is impressive. Always fancied chucking a 125 Typhoon engine in a Gilera ICE and 172'ing that.

Brings back memories of my scooter tuning days.

Might do, might just get a 500 hack to get me to an from liverpool if they fix my arm. The SRAD should be ok in a few months.

Cool

I like the fact we seem to be attracting quite a few 2 stroke projects on the forum now.

1st the RD400, then the Derbi Senda and now this Mr. Green

Add me to the test ride list! I rode a std SR125 before buying a shitty Peugeot 100cc, and it was nippy enough to be useful! 60mph indicated came up nice and quick, and then it crept up to 70mph, with the tucked in down hill prone position eventually resulting in an indicated 76ish mph! Not bad for 11-12bhp.

Would have liked a go on a kitted 172 example with around 18-20bhp. I bet your's is a bit violent on the clutch take up?

Honestly, I've never ridden it with the race clutch, so I couldn't tell you. Nor am I going to ride it on the road again.

I can tell you, however, they with the standard clutch I couldn't fully open the throttle and keep the front end down from a standstill, and I'm 6'5" and 15.5 stone!

That was back when it only had about 18rwhp and a clutch engaging at 1,000rpm.

You have to remember that unlike the Runner/Dragster/Skipper, there is NOTHING in the front end of this, no coolant bottle, hoses or radiator...so no weight.

Should be a laugh when the Nitrous Express kit turns up. Gonna go for a 7hp boost, as I would just like a 30rwhp air cooled bike Very Happy

P.S. The stock SR125 is more like 9rwhp, but smooth as you like Thumbs Up

nice i got an sr 125 aswel (in the making after i crashed it and bent the frame)
used to think they ugly but it grew on me have you done any porting or flowing to your 172 and engine cases? if not id look into it youll notice some nice power gains

btw how do you find the kundo
i heard they are same as stock performance wise but shit loads louder lol im going for a pm 52 myself

id also make sure if you run nitrous on it that you have a lot of spare parts at hand as your engine wont last very long and you should may be think about a new crankshaft and bearings

Ahh, someone who knows about these engines Cool Have some good karma

Yes, the barrel is ported, but that was back when it was about 18rwhp. I really need to get it back down to Andy at PSN to that Ryan can do the porting and Andy can set it up on the dyno.

No Flowing.

Regarding the kundo, I don't think it is a kundo Rolling Eyes

Dave Briggs (MRJBOX) who I bought it off had the exhaust fitted. It was something that Andy at PSN used on it while setting it up and managed to get 20rwhp out of it, so it stayed. I asked Dave if he knows what it is and he has no idea, but he always 'thought' it was a Kundo.

I will have to get another pic to show you, but I have looked through several pipes for one that looks similar and have never found one.

PM52 is quite a powerful pipe but SHOCKING build quality. Spend a bit more and get either a SS Jim Lomas or have a SS Scorpian pipe modified to fit.

If you do decide to go with the Paul Melici creation, make sure you have PLEANTY of VHT spray and know a welder with some experience to re-enforce the weak points for you.

With the nitrous, I am looking at using a 55mm Full Circle Crank taking the bore to 183cc. I am never going to use the nitrous, because I don't actually ride the bike. I just enjoy doing bits to it Smile

Once I have done everything I can and have become bored, I will sell up and use the money to buy another standard bike. Maybe an RC30 next Very Happy

So, what you currently have on your SR then?

Tom Thumbs Up Mr. Green

Very Happy that is one sexy sr

the way forward would be to get those cases flowed , it makes alot of differnce. its got alot to do with the workers making those cases are paid minimum wage Wink

also that engine would absolutley love a v-force 3 reedblock

this guy fabricates adaptors for motorcycle shocks onto scooters , also got alot of good quality parts on his website https://www.shiny-red.net/

Cheers mate.

Yeah, I already know Mr Shiny and we have discussed rear shock conversions. I haven't had any in depth conversations with the man, t he appears to be a bit of a legend when it comes to TI, I know that!

More porting, flowing, V-Force 3 reed block and the extra work involved in making it isn't going to be worth it for me mate. I am just setting everything up for selling in spring, ready for someone to have a blast through summer. I don't think it will be worth my while to do that extra work, as I don't think it would add anything to the bike.

I'm not trying to make money off the bike, but if I spend £300 on a part or some work, with the intension to sell, I would like to be able to add at least £100 onto the asking price for that work done, If you know what I mean.

Tom Thumbs Up

atm as its planned for road use i had to go with the more sensible options however i aimed to get the max out of my engine while keeping prices down and reliablility up...ish Very Happy
set up is standard atm but parts orderd/owned already are
172 malossi
pm 52 pipe
28mil delorto carb
malossi mhr reed block and inlet
pollini gear ups
polini belt
blue clutch springs
white contra spring
malossi variator

the bike isnt finished yet engine is yet to go back onto the new frame and my renthals are on the way from bsh tuning (never use this website as i have been waiting since 2 weeks into november for the bars to be delivered) and im still waiting to find a new front pannel from where i crashed
i wouldd guess whatever pipe it is the stub has been matched to the exhaust port on your 172 so you should keep it however when getting it re done (if you decide to) find out if it has been matched and if they say no may b look into finding out what pipe it is must admit from here it doesnt look like a kundo however i cant see it. anyways if you eventualy do find out it is a kundo and you want to get the most out of your bike may be look into geting it changed as the kundos are apparently as good as a stock pipe

just read up a cuple coments and realised that your building to sell so in that case the last paragraph i rote was pointless Rolling Eyes flowing is something that youll be able to do yourself in all honesty if you want to give it a go and you have a dremel and it would make a noticable difrence plus you cant really go rong...unless you go ape shit on your cases i recommend you have a little bash at it while the cases are split to install the new crank the aim is to make the passage from the carb to the cylinder easy so smooth off right angles etc. let me know if your intrested and ill find a few pics
im going to attack my cylinder and engine cases as soon as it gets warm enough for me to clean my engine abit before i bring it indoors for me to work on it
good luck
