I love Pinlock

I treated myself to a Shoei Multitec yesterday after deciding to relegate my (ill fitting) Caberg Trip to passenger duties.

Why did I put up with constantly fogging visors for nearly 2 years when Pinlock exists? Why is it not standard equipment for all helmets?
I was sitting at traffic lights at -3 last night with all vents closed and not a hint of fogging.

Now if only they did it for glasses....

Also, thanks to the guys at Helmet City for putting up with me for over an hour and a half, trying on all the helmets in the shop, then price matching an online site.

I thought about getting a pinlock helmet but then saw a clear plastic insert which you just stick to the inside of the visor and prevents it fogging up so bought that for my helmet instead.

Weird mines pinlock, and i can still fog the visor,
and when its properly cold it cocks right up, i had a frozen visor but a fine pinlock, made loads of rainbow patterns through it

well I just nipped out on my bike, and after a few miles, the outside of the visor was caked in salt and I couldn't see so good anyway.

Yeah the salt is a bugger.
On the M25 on the way to Helmet City I passed a Gritter lorry (whilst it was gritting). It was in the inside lane, so I moved the the outside lane (4 lanes at that point).

I still got pebble-dashed with loads of stones, a few hit the visor of my Trip scratching it and was left with a thick mist of salt all over my bike and myself.

My pinlock is awesome rain, sun, frost, snow and hail it has never fogged up. If you have the pinlock in and it steams up then it isn't fitted correctly, needs to be a seal all the way round the insert.

I think my Dad said his fogged in freezing fog...

To seal it, you use the silicone yes?
ive only stuck it on the visor mechanism as the pinlock was pre fitted?

I stopped on a ride once for a smoke and when I put the helmet back on it had fogged. Distorts in the rain, may have a fiddle with it later.

I love pinlock v.v.good. Only found it to fog up once but the pins had come slightly lose, quick sort out and away you go

Pinlock is possibly the best bit of kit I have forked out for.
Endless fogging up hacked me off. Was told about this when I brought my Arai as I started to work for Hein Gericke.
And since then I have not looked back.
I have clear and dark ones. Just need to drill the holes into my iridium visor and im sorted.
Sod this 'shift it anti fog' spray - lasts all of a few hours is that.

Heavy rain mine is fine.. But I take mine out every two weeks? run underwater and leave to dry on its own accord. Or use the hair dryer.
I have seen a few people come back saying theres fog up right away - because they have forced the pinlock in - this is not great and the pinlock itself will bend and cause a crease - thats the time to buy a new one.

I've just checked my Nolan N84 using kawakid's guide - there doesn't appear to be any sealant on the pinlock visor.

Its started fogging on one side only, and the actual visor has become scratched at the edge where the PL one lies. The helmet is about 12 months old - have I been shafted?

No, you only get it when u start, if i remember
as my new arai was supposed to have 1 little bottle of it like 10ml, but i sumhow walked out with 3 or 4, not sure how

Dont know if im being stupid here but isn't the seal on about the actual rubber bead around the pinlock itself lol?

There little bottles of silicone lubricant to seal the pinlock i was told by the shop.

Holly, depends if you brought it from us to be fair.

We had a guy in recently, who brought a pinlock then fitted it when home. But forced it in. That invalidates the warrenty by us
Because we didnt fit it.
Pinlock is 3 year warrenty only if looked after.
We have no problems fittin the pinlock for free - you just have to bring it to us if you have time.
This is our store - not sure with others.

Holly - sorry just read you have a nolan - If you brought from a HG store take it back. I cant garentee what will happen.
There is one person out of 42 stores looking after nolans at the moment.
So, waiting time may be a fair bit. We have had nothing but problems with Nolans comming back to our store for various reason.
