Hello - new member alert!
Hi peeps - I'm James - been into 'bikes since my first GP100 at 17 (I'm 32 atm) passed the test at 21 but haven't yet managed to 'free' the cash to buy a 'bike. That should be changing in a few months tho' Wink (in the past the cash has always 'found' other places to go first . . )

I've always been a fan of the early/ mid eighties bikes - no doubt being around the time my interest started!

Kawasaki's have always been my favourites - from the faired early aircooled fours (Gpz750/ 1100) through the Gpz900, the 600, the 1000rx, the GPX's etc etc the GPz9 always being the epitome of style and performance for me (personifeid by a bloke in town when I were a nipper . . ahem . . . who had a blue & silver one complete with loooud 4-1 alpha zorst).

After a pillion ride recently though, on a mate's GSXR1100K, I've started hankering after the GSXR1100's - models J (the slab sided one), K (the evil handling one) or L (the first of the upside-downies).

It'll be fun when I actually have the cash and I see what's out there . . . current main contenders in no particular order are 750turbo, 900R, GSXR11 . . .

[edit] . . . and occasionally a mad lingering drool over the TDR250 - I mean, who could argue? Smile [/edit]

Welcome to the forum. Thumbs Up

If you haven't ridden since you were 21 then be careful on a bike that big, don't want you to turn into a born again biker statistic. Smile

thanks for the thought Thumbs Up I don't have any illusions about what's going to be required of riding a big bore bike - at the end of the day it's all about wrist control (!) - the usual awareness/ risk assessment of the environment will change exponentially with the power/ speed available - I'm no fool!

There's only one thing that I'm not looking forward to getting on two wheels again - the fact that, unlike in a car, you can't 'forget' about manhole covers/ studs/ banding and so on . . .

(a 'born again' biker at 32? lmfao sheeesh! - I'm getting old Laughing )

Hehe.

Welcome aboard matey.

When you do get back onto 2 wheels just take it easy and I'm sure you'll soon get into the swing of things. Have you considered taking a refresher course?

Ta fellas - Oh yeah; of course I'll be taking it easy to begin with - but the thing is, I wouldn't consider a 'refresher' useful to be honest - since I started motoring life on two wheels rather than four, I have the whole 'awareness' thing going on anyway; ie I apply all the bike/ riding traits when driving the car (easy example being a look over the shoulder before doing most anything - something that even 'seasoned' bikers all too often forget) - and, cough cough, I believe I'm a better driver for it. I'm an 'active' driver in my car and hope that'll give me the initial edge on swapping over to two wheels - I've been there before, I employ the procedures anyway - all I'm really doing is getting used to it again? ("like falling off a . . . log"? Laughing )

Would I be arrogant in suggesting I'm not going to get much in the way of roadcraft from such a course? I'd also rather spend my initial acclimatisation on my own bike - for free - than spending a bunch of cash on someone elses, just to have to get used to mine again . . . ?

Thumbs Up
