Hi
Legal tint allows 50% of the light through. Which is a barely noticeable tint.
If the tint is more than that then it is illegal to use on the road. Doesn't matter how bright the sun is or whether or not you have a clear visor with you as well.
However being illegal and getting done for it a 2 different things. If you are using an illegal visor sensibly then you will probably get away with it.
All the best

Just wear a dark tint. You've have to be quite unlucky to get done if you're using it responsibly. i.e. not at night or in dark conditions. ____________________ My Flickr |

dunno about visors but i work in an opticians and for specs it is 65% light transmission factor (ltf) for night time which is a light tint. it differs slightly from colour to colour in terms of the shade. some may seem darker but the machine will measure how much light gets through.
then for sunlight it is 5% ltf which is basically dark as the darkest sunglasses.
so for the people saying 50% on visors it seems very reasonable. that is dark enough to notice but not too dark either. 50% would be too dark for night time driving in terms of spectacles however.
getting done would be difficult because you can lift the visor ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

Bear in mind that a standard clear visor only allows 88% of avaiable light through.
So to get down to 50% does not require much of a tint. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

you can pretty much get anything that says "for day use only" usually in the top left of the visor imprinted. then if a copper does show up just point and say this is EU standard. you should carry a clear visor with you ( at night in london when it rains with a dark visor - is probably one of the most uncomfortable riding experience - in winter i wear clear visor all the time, in summer i wear dark - just carry a clear one in your top box or in a visor pouch (although mine snapped coming down the a12 like loosing £35 quid out your back pocket ____________________ And on the 7th day the lord said..lets get pissed |
