deisel spill on roundabouts?

Hi there, a mate of mine had a crash on his bike last night on a roundabout in Stoke on Trent on the A500 / A34 junction right next to a BP garage, he and pillion are a little bruised and the bike needs some work to get back together and i found this article in the local newspaper website

Now i remember ages ago someone talking about a company or agency that have set up to help bikers who have had the same kind of accidents where similar things are apparent.

I don't get it, I frequent that piece of road, if it's dry I hammer it round that bend, if it's wet I scrub some speed off as I would for any corner and I haven't stacked it.

Tell your mate to accept he's stupid and just deal with it.

funny ive rode a whole year without hitting one, i must just never catch them in time. Confused

surely the existing road surface would be adequate without fuel on it, anyone thought of stopping the spill ? Rolling Eyes

I drive that area regular and its like every road out of a every petrol station..greasy. Stations don't have the people on the forecourt to keep things clean reducing the amount of slick when leaving.

thanks for all the helpful and sensible replies. I shall pass the contacts you guys have given and see what happens. I think its totally unacceptable that the council know this is a major problem and have not done anything about it and i think they need a proper kick in the ass about this!

Just popped out for my lunch today and found all the roads/roundabouts round my work covered in fuel - I can really smell it too! By the look of it I'd guess it's a bus as it seems to mainly be on the bus routes round here. I took extra care and went a lot slower on the roundabouts but still felt the back end slip a little bit - not nice at all... Evil or Very Mad

I have always found there to be loads of split fuel on wet road when on a bus route. Thing is it will be there in the dry yet it has never effected my handling on that route.

Only time I have really experienced a bad one was in the dry on a motorway roundabout and you could really smell it. I think that is the difference between a tiny drop or oil/diesel making it look bad, compared a proper slippy slick where you can really smell it.
