Don't have any non std bits on mine, but if you want them to pay out for the expensive non std can you have fitted then declare it.

As to cost, the more expensive the mods the more they are likely to up the price would be a fair guess.
Just remember lieing about the price to save a few £ on premium could bite you on the bum, should you claim and they find out that it was a lot more than you said.

The can and double bubble on mine are not declared. On some policies it makes no difference. On other policies they won't insure you if it's modified. It's best you ask the "I was thinking of doing this to the bike, what would that do to my insurance" question.

I've never had the mods declared on my bike. In order from them to refuse to cover you they have to prove the modification contributed to the accident more than a standard part would of.

i just renewed mine and thought i would check how much extra it would be with my mods.

i said i wanted to put a can on it and they said they needed a written statement from a mechanic that fitted it to check what power was produced by the new can.

I mentioned some other bits but they didn't seem interested.

I think my policy may be invalid as I havn't declared a single thing on it.

it has gone from this....

yeah I know Rolling Eyes

but as it was my first big bike I knew (my dad knew) that I would drop it.

which I did in the first couple of months.

it would have been cheaper and easier to get a GTR but it wouldn't have been half as much fun getting down and dirty with my bike Very Happy

Rich.

for some things it just seems daft, they should be declared.

Daft things:
Tank pad, more comfortable seat, non-slip pillion seat, larger mirrors, rim-tape etc..

All of those are mods.

That's probably more for if the car gets nicked, a car with nice wheels makes it more attractive to thieves.

I would rather not claim than lose my NCB (when it can be helped), so having uninsured mods (that don't invalidate the whole policy) doesn't worry me too much - however, having said that I don't have any expensive mods on my bike!

there was an article in max power magazine about this and they said anything on the outside that you can see you should expect to pay more but for the cars that look totally standard (no alloys, no bodykits etc) from the outside and have a lot done under the bonnet is supposed to be near enough the same as standard because theives cant really tell its there and wont make the car more attractive to them

Not true. An insurer can refuse to indemnify you should it be without doubt that they would not have insured you should the non disclosure not have occurred.

For example - should you have an accident on a bike with a modified exhaust that you had not disclosed, if that insurer does not accept any modifications as it is outside of their underwriting strategy, then they can refuse to indemnify you and void the policy ab initio.

As you will appreciate, this could leave you well out of pocket both on your own bike and any third party property damage.

ALWAYS tell the truth to your insurance company unless you want to run the risk yourself - and for the measly few quid it might make every year, is it worth having a potential £50k court case levelled at you?

I don't think so personally...

Too big to quote really, but the insurer has to pay out for the third party if they choose to void your insurance, they can then pursue you for the amount. In all the time I've been here I've yet to here of someone having their insurance void due to mods such as a can, or braided lines.

No through a variety of reasons, I'd have far too many motorbike claims to deal with if they were all just undisclosed mods Laughing But all non-disclosure issues none the less

I declared all mine. The bike was £9k and the bits put it up to £12k. I insured it at £9999, as any more than that would have affected the premium (which was otherwise unaffected) with Carol Nash.

Bike isn't heavily modded. Cans, engine bars, screen, oil cooler cover and LED rear light. Think that's everything. I'm also with C Nash so hopefully it won't cost extra.
