Even I can replace a battery, and I'm mechanically inept. |

Hi
It is a ZX6R? Think the battery is under the seat, but held in place with the bracket that holds the tank in place. It is not difficult to change yourself, although having a spare pair of hands when you remove the tank (to disconnect the fuel pipe) will make life easier.
When changing the battery disconnect the negative wire first, then the positive wire. When connecting a battery up connect the positive wire first. The idea is that this way when you are dealing with the positive terminal the battery is not earthed so touching the screw driver to both the frame and the battery terminal should not cause any sparks.
Battery prices vary greatly. I would be tempted to go for a known make of battery (Yuasa, Varta, etc) rather than an el cheapo special. Strangely for my better halfs GPZ500S the cheapest place to get a battery was Cusworths in Sheffield (cheaper than mail order or buying one at a bike show).
All the best

Bendy - that's a good sign then
Keith thanks for all the info - you're right yes it is a zx6r. I should be able to persuade my dad to lend a hand! I was just going to buy a battery from the first place I found, I won't be doing that now |

thanks for the tips
I'm hoping a new battery is the sort of thing I'm going to be able to get my hands on pretty fast? Are batteries specific to types of bike or are they fairly universal...
I'll start my battery quest tomorrow morning! |
