Did my training with a company called motag.

My instructor was a nice bloke .But the bike they gave me was a bag of Sh1t literally (suzuki GS). When i arrived for my first day of training i had 2 bump start it twice to get it going. Any way the kickstand was proper fucked. It was a b1tch 2 get down being it would never stay down. Expecting it to flick up after doing my walking turn in the road i proceeded to ride off with it down. Crying or Very sad Its a shitty design with no switch. Then after doing that it started to rain and the tires on this bike were piss poor. Anyway did the emergency stop and the front tire locked up Crying or Very sad.

So i failed, wasn't all the bike fault had another major for poor lane positioning. Anyway my advice is use your own bike not some POS that some company paid £50 for.

Also i couldn't get it up to 60 so it was really depressing to ride. when i got back on my nsr i went mad going everywhere to quick.

Middle Finger Middle Finger to whoever made that sh1tty bike.

I think it's easy to blame failing your test on the bike, perhaps you should have checked that your side stand was up, and if the tyres were poor been more careful on sthe stop (especially with this crap weather) couldn't you have told them to give you a different bike if it was that bad?. Did my driving test this week, the handbrake doesn't hold the car on a hill and the clutch is about to go, so I made sure I was careful to get over the problems. Or maybe the bike was the reason I dunno Smile

Anyway, you can take it again and it sounds like you will pass because you didn't make any stupid mistakes? Smile

If the bike was that bad I'd have made sure they'd give me another one! You should've spoke up for your self, after all tests aren't free.

Just try again dude Thumbs Up

Unlucky mate, at least your burning DVD files worked for me!

I have a GS 125 and have had no problems with it, apart from getting to 60, it gets to 50 no problem then goes in reverse, I'm sure!

Take the test again, it took me four times on my car test, each time I failed for silly things that I never ever do. I'll be using my own bike for my test, you should use yours.

Unlucky Thumbs Down

However, if you feel you've got a bona fide complaint regarding the state of the provided bike then write to them outlining your gripes.

Did you bring it to the attention of MOTAG prior to your test (or even after the event)? If you did then you can refer to the verbal complaint in your letter - always worth the cost of a postage stamp, even if all you get is a percentage reduction when or if you use them again.

If you was not happy with the bike that Motag provided for you, you should have asked if you could change it to begin with.

Some bikes have side stands that will flip up as soon as you lift the bike up off the stand, it's due to the spring thats fitted, most Suzuki's have this type of stand as standard, but you are also ment to make sure the stand does come up before you get on the bike.

Front wheel lock-up on E-Stop, this is not the tyres fault, but the riders fault, you pulled / squeezed too hard with the front brake lever, it's ment to be a gentle pull / squeeze to begin with and then adding more pressure gently to stop the bike faster, you need to practice this more in the wet so you don't do it again.

If the tyres were 'piss poor' as you say, you should of asked for a different bike !

Err ..... !!! It's a 4 stroke and not a 2-smoke, it's not ment to do more than 60 - 65mph !

Don`t chew yourself up now wot is done is done, you probably know that it wasn`t the bike that was the problem it was your state of mind. But you will learn from these mistakes and will pass with ease next time, that is wot matters Thumbs Up

I know when im wrong , i except that i would have failed anyway as you can see from the quote. Mabye you should read peoples posts a bit more carefully its always nice to no you can count on your fellow bikers for support Middle Finger Middle Finger , all i was pointing out is that my results would not have been as bad, if i had been suplyed with a well maintained bike.

I will write to motag to try and get some money back, although i doubt it will happen and i feel no need to retake the training again as i fell i can correct the mistakes that i made.

So you have never ridden on a pair of tires that are shit in the wet and fine in the dry, Guess not And how could i have know they were that shitty in the wet when i have only ever did them in the dry when they performed fine this is mainly due to a cheap compound. My Nsr has good tires on them which stop in the wet very well.

I may have slightly over reacted when saying that but when you have just spent £285 on a basically fuck all at the end of it. im sure you would be pissed off after working hard for a month so that you could pay for it. Im sure a properly maintained GS would have met my expectations i am very sorry for offending any GS owners.

Did my CBT with them. They were ok but the instructor got a bit testy at times. But the CG's were very well maintained in restrospect i think i should have done it with them.[/quote]

Errr ! I have ridden bikes in the wet that have had crap tyres and locked them up, but thats not the issue, you squeezed too hard and thats the fact of the story.

Was you not told by your instructor that in the wet you use the brakes 50/50, even when doing an E-Stop ?

At the end of the day, you've been taught to ride a bike safely, it does not matter if you failed your test, lots of people fail for one thing or another, it could have been nerves, lack of concentration.
You came away with more knowledge than what you started with, so you can not say you came away with 'fuck all'.

I wish you all the best with your next test.

Unlucky. Most people fail first time, I did for going 50mph in a 60mph limit, sounds stupid after spending £48 on the test, but you just get over it, get on and pass!

If you are complaining about the bike Motag gave you, why didn't you take the test on your NSR? If you think you would have failed on the NSR then do you think you should be riding it on the road with a full licence?

I did my CBT with Motag, (didn't have any lessons for full test, but if I did it would have been Motag) and they seemed good to me. Thumbs Up

Better luck next time mate!
I took my test in Reading, during Reading Festival and the examiner was in a car - needless to say the traffic was dire and as I couldn't filter the test was very dull. I passed though as he thought my general roadcraft in awful traffic conditions was excellent!

I did 1 full day of training, then a half day and the test. I failed first time so booked another half day and the test, which cost only £95. I was quite pleased with that.

If you are going to do more lessons see if you can get a reduction. Smile

i did two days training (10-4 monday, 10-11 on tuesday with test at 1.30 with mock on the way) and passed first time. The instructors always said i was a very good rider but a looney and so i had to keep to limits, slow for junctions and arrange my self properly and fully. Plus got grit in my eye with contacts and my contacts rebelled so had to rapidly pull over and stab at my eye and pull of again randomly. Only got two minors, both for speeding, cos i didnt slow from 60-30 quick enough and sped back up to 60 to quickly. That was it Very Happy

Why did you use a different training company for your test?

If the company you used for your CBT were so good - why change?

You know their bikes, instructors, and they know you so go with them.

I also think you need to accept that not all bikes (like cars) will have good tyres, handle well or be fast. It's just that you are used to an NSR - part of becoming an accomplished rider is being able to adapt to different machines\road conditions and adjust your riding accordingly. I perfectly understand that you are peeved off spending all that money, but YOU failed YOUR test at the end of the day, no one else, and certainly not the bike - how many people have sat their test on that very bike in the wet and passed? Quite a few I would imagine - wet weather riding is part of living in the UK, I'm afraid.

Better luck next time Thumbs Up

I took my test in rain, sleet and snow, and even though I was p1sd wet through, I passed it with 8 minors. I did my E-stop in wet conditions and stopped perfectly. I was always told, if you fail a test you are not safe enough to be on the road yet. Look at it that way Neutral
