Bought a DR-Z not even a month ago from RS motorcyccles in todmorden. 15th of December.

Insured it etc etc went out on it an it was fine for a week then it wouldn't pick up right. So took it down to a local bike mechanic and it turns out the big end has gone including piston,rings,bearings etc etc.

went across to RS today to tell them about it and they didn't want to know. Just said oh there is no warrenty on any bike. to which we replied well we bought it in good faith that everything was running sound and it turns out its fecked. An he just said not my problem.

£450 repair bill we knew we wouldn't get the whole amount but even a little bit towards it would have been nice. Especially from a biker run firm.

so anyone who is thinking of going be VERY VERY carefull. They are nice to ya when your thinking of buying it but don't want to know as soon as you have bought it.

this was something that i was wary of when i bought my KTM in aug last year, it seems that bike dealers will now act as agents to sell you warrenty rather than offering it.


i didn't go for it, and my clutch slave cylinder seal went after about 2 months. the guy's at colin appleyard did the work and everything to try and get it sorted under the original KTM warrenty, and when that didn't work they gave me a reduction in both parts and labour cost Thumbs Up .

Have a word with trading standards they will be able to advise you if you have any recourse. I would have thought that you may have some claim regarding a reasonable expectation that the bike would still be fit for purpose less than one month after taking ownership. You maybe able to recover some of the costs of repair via a small claims proceding. Worth a call to trading standards to find out anyway, as its not like a private sale where it is "sold as seen", and "buyer beware".
