Difficult one.

If it really is BS and you don't think you can get a job pretty easily afterwards then I would be inclined to wait until they try and fire you (and gather as much evidence as you can until then) then get them for unfair dismissal.

It might make it harder to get a job, but it doesn't appear that you really want to get one locally.

if what you say is true then dont quit, chances are when you prove them wrong they will dismiss the whole situation, if not and they continue to sack you take them to court for unfair dismissal like keith says and sue there asses off, i had trouble like this at work they said either hand in your notice or your sacked, i knew i was in the right so went along to the meeting, i spoke before they got the chance and my meeting to fire me ended up on bein thanked for my service to the company.

Just as a note, our company's IT policy (yours might be different) says that you shouldn't be browsing anything non-work related at any time on any company computers, so they may have you on that one. Although if it were to go to court I'm pretty sure you could get out of it by mentioning what hours you were browsing.

Do you know if they have any web monitoring/filtering in use which could have logged the sites you visit?

They could bring up BCF, but I can't see just that alone being a sackable offence. We have sacked people at our place for internet usage but they've been taking the piss. If they do bring up internet usage at this meeting then ask for the logs.

Don't know your situation, tbh, so can't offer any concrete advice.

If you're definitely going to be sacked, though, it almost becomes a moral dilemma: better to be sacked so that you can claim jsa or better to quit to avoid the stigma of a firing on a cv? There's no easy answer because the outcome, for both, is shit and it's really a case of which "silver lining" are you hankering after?

Unemployment is the shittest thing ever. I signed on for a few months (genuine reasons which I won't disclose) and I can tell you, it's very depressing. Every other week the job centre staff have a way of making you feel like a right loser whilst offering no help. The staff at the job centre seem to be great at tolerating layabouts but useless at helping people find work.

So, if you're losing your job either way, I'd be inclined to just toss a coin, let that make the decision for you, see it through and forget about it. A silver lining isn't anything to bust your own balls over: becuase it's impact on your life is marginal. You're just, as we all do, getting tangled up in the small print. Quit or be fired, it's still the same outcome. Instead focus on where you're going next, get applying for jobs now, sidestep the miserable hole of unemployment before it digs itself deeper and deeper and sucks you in.
