Until the 27th of April, according to my examiner (DSA had a conference yesterday, apparently).

It will be definitely[1] be two parts, charged separately, and you will be able to take the two components at different test centers.

[1] The DSA's version of definitley, of course.

Also, I passed my big bike test with a clean sheet Very Happy

I'm not sure wether this news should bother me or not? I have booked to do my 2nd cbt on the 1st March, there was no sooner available date. I'm not worried about the test getting any harder, I know without a doubt that I will pass.
I passed my A2 easily enough before.
There are onyl two things that I'm worrying about, A) that the new test means more money and time til I can get back on my RVF.
B) IS it possible that I can take my theory before my CBT? I'm planning to start learning to drive soon anyhow so might aswell get both my theories out of the way again.

as people said it would be moving to different dates alot of it being hearsay.

Ummmm.... I would'nt really say that its a major pisstake to be honest, all it means is you get to take your test sooner.
They're obviously incompetent though, I'm not worried about the new test but its completely unessercary and very unfair.

When I think about it I feel like I as a biker am being targeted again, they want to make it more expensive,
harder to do and even more of a chore to find information on.
People allready have enough problems as it is getting information on learning to ride...

I don't hear of any similar talk of doing tests like this for the driving test,
if anything new drivers need more emphasis on stuff like observations,
driving in bad weather, basic maintanence knowledge, road awareness etc.

I'm not saying this just becuase I don't drive,
becuase I am actually planning to learn this year but even I,
now being quite a fast and generally suicidal rider am shocked by driving standards today...
Not just by selfish behaviour but quite often laziness, dopiness, idiocy and inpatience.

Just had this sent to me.

Response to Consultation report: INTRODUCING THE NEW PRACTICAL MOTORCYCLING TEST AND ASSOCIATED FEES

New motorcycle test to be split into 2 parts
Increased number of service delivery points
New test can be booked from 30 March at the latest 2009
Testing will commence on Monday 27 April
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has today published a response to the recent consultation paper: Introducing the new practical motorcycling test and associated fees.

A key decision is that the practical motorcycling test will be split into two modules.

Module 1 – a specified off road manoeuvres test

Module 2 – a road riding test

Bookings for the test in its new format will commence no later than 30 March for tests conducted from 27 April 2009

This modular approach will allow DSA to increase the number of locations from which the new test will be available. It is planned that on launch day 67 locations will be available from which to take Module 1 and 104 locations for Module 2.

A full list of these locations and maps showing the areas covered by the test centres can be found on the DSA website. This means that 89% of customers will be able to reach a Module 1 site within 45 minutes of travelling and 96% of Module 2 customers.

Other decisions

Require motorcycling candidates to pass a module 1 test before taking the module 2 test.

Require candidates to complete both modules within 24 months of passing a relevant theory test.

· Introduce a minimum wait before a failed test can be retaken:

· Module 1: 3 clear working days

· Module 2: 10 clear working days

Split the current £80 motorcycling test fee as follows:
· Module 1: £10.00

· Module 2: £70.00

Increase from 5 October 2009 the fee for the practical motorcycling test to £90.50 and split as follows:
· Module 1: £15.50

· Module 2: £75.00

The Response to Consultation Report can be found here: https://www.dsa.gov.uk/Consultation.asp?id=SXA130-A7830427&cat=336

So if you pass module 1 and fail module 2, you don't need to resit module 1?

That's the theory.

As much as I dislike all this dicking about with the tests and dates, etc, the new (or old!) test does mean that if you dab your foot during the u-turn you've only binned £10, rather than £80.

You'd have thought the U turn would remain on the road - otherwise, what's the point of showing the obs

New test dosnt even include the Uturn...
and i heard that if you fail you still need to do both again from someone, just means if youve got the slow control etc they are expecting the same standard for the road. dont quote i on that tho just hearsay.

DSA consultation document wrote:
Ministers have noted concerns about the ten day wait before a candidate can
retake a Module 2 test but feel that reducing this requirement would send the wrong message to candidates. They have decided that candidates should wait for 3 days before being able to retake a Module 1 test and ten days before being able to retake a Module 2 test. Minimum waits allow candidates to complete further training and discourages further early, but futile, attempts to pass the test without addressing the reasons for failure.

I couldn't be bothered to dig for the actual answer, but that's close enough for government work.

If you fail module one you can't take module 2, but if you fail module 2 you do not have to yake module 1 again, as long as it is within the 24 months your CBT lasts for.

Yup, if you fail mod2 you don't need to retake mod1.

Once you've passed the theory you have to pass mod1 and mod2 within the specified 24 months from passing your theory.

I don't think It's too bad of an idea to be honest, especially as alot of people fail by putting a foot down on the u-turn.

Once it's expired do you have to retake the theory test even if you've got your A2 license?
