Got myself a Nokia 6600 yesterday, want some polyphonic ringtones for it. Any1 else got this phone who has a decent ringtone, or know anywhere that does cheap polyphonic tones for it. Cheers.

Luke

Do you have an infra red port on it or a data cable? If so, and it supports midi polyphonic (should do being a nokia, certainly my 7650 does), you can simply send midi files to it.

Izzi, get a datacable, or if your phone has infra-red, get an infra-red transciever for your pc, and send them directly to the phone.

Which phone is it? Samsung for instance have a particular polyphonic format, Nokia has their AMR format (recorded audio - so you can convert WAV and MP3 files), and will play .MID files (midi stuff nice and easy to find on the internet), so you don't have to use these expensive ringtone services, which are pretty naff at the best of times.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Just plug the phone into the PC? I didn't know that was possible! So I can just upload files from the PC hard drive?
I have a Siemens a55, so it is capable of polyphonic ringtones, only at the moment I'm stuck with the pathetic ones the phone came with!

They do a data cable for the A55 and then just transfer directly from your PC. A USB cable will be between £15 and £20 at a guess, check with your local mobile phone shops or online.

Then download midi files for ringtones to your PC and send them to your phone. You'd have to check that the A55 can play midi files, as I'm not sure off the top of my head.

midi... that's going to be more basic than polyphonic isn't it? (mixing 'computer' sound terms with 'phone' sound terms is confusing Smile )

Its the same thing, monophonic is a single instrument, polyphonic is multiple instruments. Midis are generally polyphonic, though you can find monophonic ones. Midi's are far from basic - used in sequencers and various music equipment.

It will sound a little different on your phone than it will do on your PC, especially if you have a decent sound card (audigy or yamaha semi pro gear), but it won't be different to the polyphonic file they send you from those ringtone companies.
