Out doing my lessons this morning and man it was raining
my waterproof buffalo trousers were soaked through, my
swift jacket did better and my gloves were soaked through.

All were meant to be waterproof, all the other guys
were the same.....scottish rain must be different.

You will learn quickly that waterproof actually means jack shit, its just varying levels of showproofing, given enough heavy rain anything will soak through...

What i value most in gear now is speed of drying, dont mind getting wet hands, but absolutely hate for the gloves still to be cold and damp the next day...

Ive got a pair of slipover hiking waterproof trousers that just go on top of my leathers, and my hiking rain coat which again goes over my leathers - only thing that gets wet on me is my gloves really

Only bit of kit I will EVER trust to keep me dry is a full, one piece rainsuit. Hasn't failed me yet, unlike the rest of my previous bits of kit which claim to be 'waterproof'.

Waterproof means nothing. No textiles are waterproof.

Same as instigator, I have a 1 piece rain suit, that keeps the water out. But even then if it's really really really hard over a long time, it'll seep through at the zips.

In over 25 years of getting wet i have never found anything waterproof. The only thing that came close were Great big yellow fishermans pants and jacket, but they didn't wear well.

The best thing is how shower proof it is and how quick it dries.
i have resorted to bin bags under my gear and plastic bags in my boots.

I have a Belstaff waterproof suit, on Isle of Skye in torrential downpour I stayed dry and on the 5 hour ride home from Inverness in torrential downpour it kept my body dry, no leaks anywhere. I have some goretex waterproof boot liners now as well, yet to test them out in the rain.

I've been riding 21 years and have never found any 100% waterproof gear from Frank Thomas through to Hein Gerike and lots of others inbetween. Never been rich enough to purchase Rukka gear, but thinking about how much money i have spent on gear over the years i should have got a bank loan ages ago.

Regarding gloves, think about how you wear them. If you can tuck the wrist bits inside the cuffs of your jacket or oversuit it will make them more waterproof as the water wont be running off your sleeves and into the glove, admittedly most winter gloves are too bulky to tuck in your jacket arms so unfortunatly they are going to get wet, cold, soggy, and the lining will come out with your hands making them a bastard to put back on. At the mo i have a pair of Gerkins Spocking gloves with some really old silky liners, toasty

Edit.... bit of a fib about not finding anything 100% waterproof... Daytona gortex lined boots (not cheap), lasted five years before leaking and worn nearly every day for that five years then another pair bought lasted another five years, changed to Alpinestars due to them being cheaper... not leaked yet

You can get goretex waterproof boot liners from an army surplus store for about £10, they also help keep the toes all warm & toasty

i never in the 3 years living in scotland found any gloves or specific motorcycle trousers that could deal with scottish rain,

i had triumph salopet type trousers, they always leaked in the cruch, (the last place you really want to be wet) frank thomas gear including pants and jacket both leaked from new, although the later FT aquapore jacket was and still is good even after 4 crashes it keeps the water out (best bit is it only cost me 30 quid)
i bought a set of army surplus navy gortex over trousers, that were fantastic, and had a zippable flair so were really easy to get over your boots,
i am yet to find gloves that are water proof, i spent 70 quid on a set and the first time it rained on the way to stormin the castle they swelled up so much with water, that when i filled up, i couldnt get the fuckers back on again, andhad to ride the rest of the way without gloves on!!!
the best results ive had reguarding gloves have been my ski gloves, no armour in them, but on the plus side they have a little blade for wiping your goggles, which came in very handy

best thing to do is get hand guards on your bike, if you can stop 100mph water hitting your hands then the chance if them staying dry is much better

In September I did a miserable 4 hour journey in
continuous rain of various level of intensity. My hands
were bone dry when I got home. Though my fingertips
were starting to feel the cold after 3 hours.
