Right, there's been complaints of poor threads recently.


Well I want to try and get back to talking about bikes. The stuff surrounding bikes. This isnt particularly a thread for noobs, although your situation could be hypothetic, if it's well thought out.


What I'm looking for, is some decent discussion, on what the perfect set up is, for varying road/track users. Not necessarily bike set up, but more experienced racers may wish to share their set ups? Some details maybe? I know Im interested in that stuff.


Post your idea of your biking "heaven", your biking "Nirvana". A specific time in your biking life when things just couldnt seem to get any better?



It can be anywhere. Location, is quite important, as you might know. Do you have a perfect road? Where have you ridden that you would not hesistate to go again and again and again.

Could be for the roads? the scenery?


The bike? What is your perfect bike? The best you've ridden? What would mesh well with the previous location/roads/scenery in poetic beauty?

The bike set up? Touring? Music blaring? Suspension fine tuned for track riding?

The motor? Stock?


Thought it might be interesting.






Personally, I believe my Nirvana would be my current 99' zx6r as the workhorse.

Suspension set up perfectly for my weight, some better tyres with a taller profile. The Scorpion can roaring in the background as it warms up, and the mist lifting off Cadwell Park in the 9am haze.

I can hear tons of bikes starting up, screaming, all getting ready to get out and push some limits.

Surrounded by lush greenery, and listening to people veritably tearing over the mountain. Then getting out myself. Knee positively on fire as you find out where your tyres are comfortable, slipping the back end out cos you've pushed it a little hard too early, and the associated adrenaline rush.

Hearing the IL4 howl with delight and echo within the confines of the small valley, as you wring its little neck down the straight, then hear the downchange and the revs soar again, and your body leaves the bike like it was what you were meant to do in life.




I think thats my Nirvana.

i would like to have posted a reply but i feel that i am not articulate enough to be considered interesting in a thread like this, but in short aslong as its hot and sunny and im riding somewhere im happy, my obvious favourites are 13 bends near bakewell and cat and fiddle, not a cloud in the sky and bike running like a dream, ahhhh heaven

13 bends? I dont live near that area, never been there. Where is it near? (wouldnt mind checking on google maps)


If I'm road riding, there is a lovely road from Withernsea to Hornsea (East Yorkshire Coast) that is fantastic on a summers day, with the sun high in the air, the roads shimmering with heat haze and the bike sticking like No Nails to the tarmac


I remember once, I was riding back along a huge straight near that area, and a fucking Hercules Transport banked across my field of vision, stupidly low. I tried to catch it. Was like something out of a movie, was fucking awesome.

It was a weekend in July last year.
We loaded up and rode from Malvern to Anglesey on the Friday, in pissing down rain. Just as we got to the bridge to get on the 'island' the clouds parted and the sun beamed down like Gods own maglite.
We found Anglesey circuit, set up our tents and were treated to an awesome aerobatic display by a Eurofighter.
The next day was spent riding like i never have before, down the corkscrew, round the banking and even (for me ) getting the rear wheel to spin up out of the corners.
And all this in 20c sunshine and a backdrop of the sea and Snowdonia.
I doubt (but remain hopeful) that i will find another track that was as awesome as that was that day.
The next day was epic too. We rode from Anglesey down to Barmouth, then cut across and riding through Welshpool, Leominster then finally home.
It was a legendary weekend for me - Mates, a track, awesome roads, spectacular scenery and decent weather.

I can't call it Nirvana for many reasons but my idea of a 'good' day probably differs significantly from many on here. In my world there is no such thing as a bad bike, just some are more desirable than others. This is my way of justifying my ownership of a 1987 XV1000. Yes it has lots of chrome on it, yes it does 0-60.... eventually, no it doesn't go fast around corners but hey, its mine. I wanted a British single but I also wanted to get to places without several maintenance stops and a spare 5 gallons of oil slopping around my rucksack.

what I hadn't considered was the attitude adjustment that came with it.


Previously I wasted my weekend hunting and humiliating weekend warriors in and around the Peaks. A quick recce was all that was needed to ensure that you only took on the weak of the pack. The taste of their shame was sweeeeeet.

Along comes the XV. Now I won't deny that I didn't try racing it but with a redline of 6k and weighing in at 5 billion tons I was on to a loser. A lot was at stake here. My virtual rep was going to be chewed up by a bank manager with a belt sander and no chicken strips.

Enlightenment.

Go slower. Do not give the impression that you acknowledge them in the slightest. You win on the high ground principal.

So there I am, bumbling along and 'winning' at an ever increasing rate when, fortunately, I become aware of a niggling thought which turns into a growing realisation that there is something out there. What is it? A tree, house, rocks, wall, grass, stuff. Feck me, this scenery is nice. I spent the rest of the day just enjoying what was around me.

Yet another (thankfully) abbreviated ramble which does come to a point with a slight bearing on the rest of the thread.

My favorite days are early spring. A slight chill in the air but plenty of promise. Jump on XV and just ride. No plan, no agenda, no map, just go. The sound of open pipes on a big V twin at low revs being just enough to slightly annoy the people still in bed without screaming enough to really piss them off. Couple of hours later and hopefully I'm in the middle of nowhere, or somewhere with nothing there. If the weathers on my side I like to pull over and read for a bit, or pretend to read while listening to nothing. Sometimes I doze off and wake up with a feeling of complete nothingness. No worries, no hassle, no noise, no idea of where I am.

Thank feck I brought a tomtom.

in scotland my favorite road was the bothwick to innerlethian road
its fantastic, big straights, nice corners both fast and slow, and no traffic, the only thing you need to be careful of is sheep and golf balls at the innerlethian end,

back here in new zealand

north island road bike
i like spooners hill to itaku back road

north island dirt i like red rocks all the way round the south coast
no road but on a dirt bike or decent 4x4 you can easily get to the lighthouse

and for the south island the whole west coast is awesome,
from westport to wanaka and through the haast pass
road

ive done that whole road in a day and saw only about a dozen cars

google says 7 hours but its really about 12 or 13 hours or the most awesome scenery you'll ever see in your life,

i might be slightly biased but ive travelled all over the world and the only place that even gets close to being as nice as new zealand is norway,

riding new zealand on any bike in any condition is great, no need to go fast when you have nice twisties everywhere

Riding round the fantastic roads arond the Nurburgring is one of the best feelings. Not only do you have the perfectly smooth tarmac, the gradient and the hairpins to enjoy, but also the delicious anticipation that in a few minutes you could be on the most awesome and challenging piece of tarmac in the world.

Couple that with the fact that virtually all other traffic is thinking and doing the same thing, the feeling is utterly awesome.

That place is heaven. Fuck this downunder malarky, Europe here I come!

And Ichy, awesome description. Thought I can honestly say, I only like to enjoy scenery when I've stopped.

The quirks of being youthful and exuberant, methinks. Sort of a nice mix of both worlds.

Scarborough (for an East Coast town anyways) looks lovely in the sunset aswell. Ride it a few times, trying to out do each other, a few of us at each corner warning for coppers/speedvans.

But then stopping, and realising, fuck me, what a lovely sunset over the hills. And taking a nice Panoramic, off the cuff, that turns out better than you could have expected
