Was about to post a similar thing.

GF got a laptop for work with a wireless router thing. Installed fine.

However when its working, I can't log into hotmail, stream youtube, or post on BCF (can read only) from the desktop pc, it just hangs forever and eventually errors when I try any of this.

I am posting now, because whenever she isnt using it, I revert to the old modem and wires which work as well as they ever did.

Its a little thing, but bloody annoying.

What provider are you with?

Friend of mine had his net do some quirky things like not being able to use MSN so had to tweek some settings on his new netgear router. If it's such an issue then you should be able to google your solution. If not maybe faulty hardware.

WGR614's are notoriously bad routers, especially the ones from Virgin. You would be better off getting a router that is known to be good.

I'd reckon the issue is just the fact that its a netgear and they tend to get a bad rep. I can't advise on a good router however as I'm still using my netgear dgn3000 or whatever it is called. It works 90% of the time but can kick up a massive fuss for no reason at all..

The virgin router is rubbish and was the root cause of me having to completely reformat my computer numerous times cause I couldn't install any programs. It turned out the router was so fucking rubbish that it wasn't downloading the whole file so I was getting loads of file corruptions. As soon as I bought another router everything was fine.

It also mucked up Xbox Live everytime. Awful router.

Last year I came accross a couple of people that had Netgear/MSN issue. They got round it by using an older version of MSN. THought it would have been dealt with by a firmware or model upgrade by now though.

Agree - If you google it there are a few articles.

He was with AOL and the problem was with the MTU number. No idea what that number was for then or now, but changing it by a few digits fixed it.

I did find one person expressing the same symptoms as you're having dransy but there was no solution. Only thing they mentioned was try it without encryption, sniff out incompatibilities i suppose.

- As states above make your wireless connection is encripted (so when you connect wirelessly you need to type a password in.
- Your router settings may need to be optimised, some routers have a QoS (quality of service) settings.
- You always reset your router and re-configure as a quick test.
- When the latop is off do you lag out in Counter Strike? if so then the problem is with the router.

Are you connecting to the router hardwired? if so the issue is with the router.

Your misses is probably just downloading porn Laughing
