Just came across this clip from "Keeping up appearances".
https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qWvT3cNG-YM

Made me wonder who you've been surprised to come across on motorbikes!

Prince William was/is interested and supposed to have been spotted riding alone in Scotland.
There's a degree of anonymity when in bike helmet - which must be a real boon to some people.

Be a short-lived biking career on that bike (GPz305). I wouldn't be surprised if the clip ended with an explosion and bits of engine casing flying across the set.

Little old ladies are the best. They love motorbikes and will tell you stories about how they went on their honeymoon on a panther 650 and sidecar.

There is an old lady in her 90s now who I see every year to vaccinate her dog. She showed me pictures of her and her husband on their bikes. Proper ones too, I'm not all that good on bikes but among the pictures I saw a vincent black shadow, an ariel square 4, a velocette venom, a triumph trident and the last one was a Norton dominator (her favourite apparently).

Actually yeah, could be the 550. Mirrors on the fairing, not the handlebars.

People always get surprised when I say I have a bike, they often don't believe me even when I show them a picture.

This is so true. I remember when I was 16 on holiday in Gt Yarmouth, I used to go for morning walks down the beach and there was this old lady walking her dogs who I got talking to each day. Turns out she was an old Essex girl biker. Really cool. Also, my next door neighbours, an old couple, are ex bikers and they both love having a chat about bikes when I'm getting mine out to go to work or whatever.

Same as. I have no idea why. Maybe it's because I don't have a beard a million tattoos.

I get that a bit, either happens at work or out on the piss... Last place i worked most people biked in anyway - and we got a bike bay extended by pushing Brighton Council traffic planning Thumbs Up

Place I'm at now, no one bikes at all, one guy used to years ago but doesn't anymore and most people dont get it...

All fun

You don't really expect Ewan McGregor to be a Moto Guzzi fan, mainly because he doesn't have perpetually oil stained hands...

No, but its still a characteristic of every other Guzzi owner I've ever met. Smile

Yeah me too! Rolling Eyes Wink

I think that it's been the most surprising thing to me about motorcycling - I've met some incredible people at all the usual suspect bike stops around here. What's so funny is that everyone I've met gets soooo excited when they find out they can talk bikes (until they realise I know f**k all Embarassed ) or take me under their wing as a newbie!

Another prime example of 'never being able to tell a book by it's cover' and long may that last!! Thumbs Up

I was surprised by one of my PCT's Information Manager who happens to be the poshest man (ever)... I struggle to speak to him on the telephone without laughing because he does sound as though he's putting it on.

Yesterday I got an email which shocked me:

Poshest Information Manager in the World Ever wrote:

Good morning Ms Annabella,

I hear that you are a keen motorcyclist, I too ride motorcycles. I own a KTM 990S which performs the dual function of toy and sole form of transport.

Blah blah, boring work stuff asking for my advice; because, despite being posh he seems to think I now everything.

Amazing!! I ask him if it's broken yet and he details a few issues with the battery, clutch, gearbox etc, and finishes his email:

I imagine him with a handlebar moustache, open faced helmet and leather patched elbows. Thumbs Up

Tom Cruise is another,

I remember watching a show where MV built a one-off MV Augusta especially for him & even delivered to the airport so he could test it up & down the runways.

Free of charge for him, off course.

Heh funnilily enough I'm an information guy at a PCT although I'm not posh!

Still most people are shocked when they find out I've got a bike... citing "You're not the usual biker type". Whatever this usual type is supposed to be?
