Its a Blata Oragami B1 replica, (Chinese copy of a Blata Oragami) apart from cooling mods as the reps were notorious for cooing problems its kinda how it came out of the box* .

*Well, I put a polini 2-shoe Kevlar clutch in it as they are better ... oh and I took the fairing off, so i could straighten the handlebars as it gives me a bit more room!! Very Happy

Cool I was thinking of picking up an aircooled minimoto for just over £100. Is it worth paying a bit extra for the water cooled?? Theres a kart track around 25miles from me which has dedicated sessions for £15 with your own bike. Looks like some serious fun!! Are they cheap for parts/tyres etc? Id be guessing there pretty unreliable - how have you found yours

I had a cag (cheap Chinese aircooled) good crack if you have mates with the same bike, but slow as feck if you are trying to run a 1/2 decent lap ...

I think the cags have ~2hp. Most of the 'proper' minimotos have 6-12hp ... the cags at 1/3 to 1/6 the power, is quite a deficit Wink

I would NOT recommend getting a Chinese liquid cooled. They produce ~6hp, so a HP match with the lower end of the 'proper' (Polini, Blata, BMZ etc) minimotos, but riddled with reliability/build quality issues ...

I have had a torrid time with my Oragami rep, so much so I have bought a 2nd one to take along as the first one can break at any moment and I don't want to go all that way and be left without a ride!!

In short, by going for a cheap bike, I have spent MORE in total than had I got a more reliable 'proper' bike to start with ...

My minimoto mate had got a Blata 4.2 elite. His is aircooled, so less to worry about, they are almost exactly equal on power ... mine probably has slightly more top end, but his drags out of the corners better ...

Where my has boekn down nearly every time and been so fickle it is unreal ... my mates has never missed a beat ...

The only positive of the oragami rep is that it is one of the larger minimotos, i.e. you still have to make silly shapes to get on it, but it is bigger ...

I can only last ~10mins at a time on the bike before the ankle/leg pain is too much and I have to take a break ... generally speaking it takes me at least 30seconds after getting of the bike before I am able to walk!!! Shocked I tend to come into the pits, literally roll off the bike and lie on the ground on my back moving my legs and feet about in the air for ~30 seconds so I can stand up/walk!! Sad

Getting a bike that was even smaller would probably make it even worse!!! Thumbs Down

Anyway, from a reliability point of view, go for a 'proper' minimoto.

liking the little elite- matches my real bike Smile Im only looking to spend up to £200 max tbh. Just a bit of fun. Dont really have the budget at the min to go too wild! Frequent repairs wouldn't cause me too much of a problem as long as the parts are cheap. Im even considering going halves on one with a mate for now and if we get 'hooked' invest in another. Its mainly for a bit of fun so not that fussed about the power at the min. As long as it can pull my 12stones round a small track for 15mins at a time itl do the trick. So if going for the 'cheap/pain in the arse' option would you reccomend air cooled over l/c??

Start off with a cag - off ebay they are <£100 brand new including postage.
Expect to replace stuff like fuel lines and fuel filters from new - also give it a once over before you first ride it as I think the are assembled rapidly by starving 5yr old kids in sweat shops ... and there is a good chance some of the fundamentals are not done up/working properly ...

My CAG I started with was great, apart form a few teething problems, it never let me down. Thumbs Up .. performance wise, it was fecking sh1te though!! Very Happy

Have a few sessions on that, get the bug, then throw it away and buy a 2nd hand elite (or other 'proper' bike) ... you should be able to get a good 2nd hand bike for £300-500 depending on spec.

I think you can get away with the low powered Chinese cags as they don't have much HP to deal with, but as I have learnt, if you get to the 6hp+ mark ... that build quality really comes into play. At this point, getting a 'proper' bike is financially and hassle much more sense ...

Nice video. What lens you got on your bullet cam? it seems quite zoomed? on a few clips I thought you were on the same bike Wink

I've got a Z1 rep which I've barely used because theres no tracks in the Southwest and I dont have a car Sad There was a very small go kart track which opened a few times, only charged like £2 for the day too Smile That was awesome fun while it lasted. Shame it never took off like I had hoped Sad

The camera I used for minmoto (and my MX) is just a cheap DV cam from Lidl ... traveller DV-5000, quite litterly elastic banded to the side of my lid Embarassed ... its not wide angle, so it looks particularly close, but it is fair to say I don't leave much room for error at times ... but then I am not tying to be a gentleman!! Wink So they are shot with only the chepo camera, but I got a proper bullet cam on my tackbikes though Smile

There are a few other choices if I include outdoors tracks, but I only do indoors for two reason ... one it is weather independent Thumbs Up ... and two ... I struggle to make the shapes in a boiler suit ... I have no chance in tight leahters Wink ... I'd wear leathers outside as it is tarmac, but the surface inside is lacquered concrete, so there is little abrasion and boiler suit is fine Smile

you seem to know your stuff about mini motos , i was thinking about getting a cheap one off ebay , flowing the cases porting the barrel , widening and fitting a bigger reedblock and putting a beefy carb on there

would this be a bad idea ? chinese engine tend to turn to cheese when there put under any real strain Confused

also bore kits and fc cranks seem to be pretty cheap of ebay , chinese crap most likely

Unless you want a play, they are fickle enough as they are ... if you want it to have any chance of holding together ... leave it alone Wink

I'd go for a proper big-bore over DIY tuning*, the results are likely to be better and its much less hassle ...

ahh thats a shame , i like tuning little 2-strokes and porting and flowing is much more fun than bolting bits on , what makes them so un-reliable anyway ? is it just because everythings smaller and weaker like the smaller piston , it would heat up quicker right ?

Cheap metal and inferior machining/casting of the parts (over the 'proper' stuff) ...

If you wanna have a play porting one, then go ahead ... the Chinese bits are not expensive anyway ... you can get a whole new cag motor for ~£30 Wink

With a tampered with Chinese engine ... you can expect to do a lot of walking!! Very Happy

As I said at the start, the aircooled cags seem to be ok, its only the highly strung ones that suffer from the poor build quality/materials.

They are more expensive yes ... but its the same story as a Chinese road bike ... its false economy ... you are better off buying a few year old Jap bike than a NEW Chinese bike ...

But the cags are <£100 ... so in this day and age, its hardly the end of the world if it ends up in a skip after a few weeks Wink

Humm, in which case it'll end up stood in the back of your garage/house forever more ... well until it ages and turns to dust ... about 3 weeks!! Very Happy

They are not that bad Wink but the lack of quality is plain to see and will bite you at some point ... be it a chain snap, a caliper bolt randomly come undone/sheer, a wheel bearing going, the tyre suddenly forming a large welt, or the barrel de-lining itself!!

And yes ... I have had all the above happen!! Wink
