Bit of a hijack but its an insurance thread.

Say I have 1 years NCB, can I use that 1 years on just one policy or as many as I want?

It's so stupid as technically, whatever I insure, I still have 1 year where I haven't claimed.

The idea is that then if you do have an accident the next year, you can't just go and use a separate bit of NCB that originated in the same place.

But you have to notify the insurance of any accidents so that should automatically wipe out the NCB.

In June I will have 2 separate NCB of 1 year, can I then use them on different policies? Highly unlikely.

well I have 10 year ncb on the car and when I insured the bike I had 1 year ncb on that but they gave me an extra 3 years ncb on the bike because I had a high car ncb Smile

I went in with 1 ncb for bike and at the end of the years insurance if I havnt had a claim I will walk away with 1+3+1 = 5 years ncb SmileSmile

It doesn't ... having an accident is a different part of the calculation to the NCB. For instance you might have had multiple accidents in one year, which will count against you.

Having two separate lots of one year's no claims you can use them on two separate policies. Otherwise those of us with lots of vehicles would be paying silly insurance on all but one vehicle.

Some places will take account of other no claims held, though vm-man seems particularly lucky to actually get it included; usually they just knock the price down a bit.

Thanks guys. I was looking at quotes for my next bike (maybe 04 SV or Hornet) and TPFT came to £1200 so I thought I mite do a year on TPO which was about £470 but I still wanted to be able to get a No Claims bonus

Remember that making a claim costs a lot more than the difference between TPO and TPFT/FC.
They may cancel your policy with no refund, you lose NCB, have to pay higher insurance even if you have other NCB for the next five years on all insurances you get. Then there's the excess and the fact they may refuse to give you near what it would cost to replace it.

It's a gamble and at £730 just for the up-front payment, I'd say the odds are very poor in this case. Spend some of that money on decent security and you'll probably be better off whatever happens.

I never usually leave my bike anywhere because its used for commuting so its either in the uni car park (with security), at home in the garage or in my dads factory. So what do you think TPO or TPFT? Is it worth the extra for TPFT?

Do your sums, but for me I'd probably go for a cheaper bike for a start as the new models don't really offer that much.
Even with a newer model, wouldn't be going for TPFT personally. Make sure you do lock it up well and consider where there's working CCTV.
If you're youngish, then I suspect you may actually end up being more out of pocket claiming for a stolen bike, than having a bike stolen on TPO and not having claimed.

TPO.

I went TPO on the Hornet 6 at 18.

Currently TPO on the NC30. And I'm 20. I can get fully comp for 400 on the NC, but I don't see the point in claiming even if it was my fault. (TPO is like 260 or so)

Loss of all NCB (3), claim against me for next 5 years, and only so much after excess? Nah thanks.

Could fix the bike up yourself cheaper.

Oh and Hornet is better than the SV Wink

As long as you're sensible with the securing your bike you should be fine.

You have any security?

£730 would more than cover a bike alarm and a decent lock.

Thanks for the help Thumbs Up

At the moment I have no security apart from the steering lock Embarassed But i've come into some money so that should be sorted soon.

As for Hornet or SV I will have to see them both close up, i've only seen the Hornet close up so far.

What did they quote fully comp then?

I ask, because I had TPFT on a Saab 3 litre because I thought it wasn't worth getting fully comp but just chatting with the bloke at Carole Nash when my bike insurance was due, and he got me fully comp cheaper than the TPFT I was paying.

But I am an old fart Sad

Fully comp can sometimes be cheaper (only tends to happen when you are older I've found) but it's still not worth it at my age (I'm guessing roughly his?)

And Hornet is better than the SV. '03 onwards looks nicer but carbs are better. For backfires yo' Wink

No doubt if it did have multiple policies and had a claim on one, and saw your whole NCD wiped out across all policies - that'd be just soooo unfair as well Wink

I am 18, 19 in June Dance! and live in London. So many people are saying Hornet instead of the SV so maybe it's saying something Laughing .

I do like the Hornet 03 onwards with the sharper tail but I would definitely have to change the headlight because I hate the round ones for some reason. m0l0t0v hurry up and fit the new headlight so I can see what it looks like! Laughing

I changed the height of it later on and it looked better. I never really got a proper pictrue though so it's all I have. They were also much brighter and had better spread for night time visibility Thumbs Up

The headlight I want to put on my current (in bits) Hornet is the CB1000R one Razz
