Got it with my monitor and it fits into my graphics card but I've no idea what it's for.

While I'm here, is there any way to get a 360 to play on my monitor? It doesn't plug straight into the back.

Figured out that my card (8500gt) is S-Video output only and I've no chance. Nice big waste of time, will just have to find new stuff later on.

I assume you mean (PC Output) S-Video > Composite > HD (TV Input)

S-Video carries standard definition video

Isn't S-Video 4 pin?

Nvidia cards come with a 7-pin Din to component cable.

The Red, Green & Blue connectors are the individual colours for the video (can also be known as HD component cable like Mick said), no sound transmitted over any of these three cables - the Yellow, White & Red cables which looks the same have video only over yellow, and stereo sound over red & white. Other end is 7-pin S-Video.

7-Pin S-video half way down this page:

To play the 360 on a PC monitor you will need a HD VGA cable, only cost a couple of quid on the bay.

You will need to plug a cable that is attached to it into your "input in" on the back of your PC if you want the sound to come through the speakers though.
