Australian rider seeks training in London

Hi all,

I am from Australia and am currently riding a little CBR125R .

At home I passed my Ls in May, and my Ps in August. I have been riding for 8 months now, on a 125. Only done 1,800 kms.

I was wondering if there is any place I can go for some training here in London. I live in Hammersmith.

I want to go touring around Europe- but have been told that my bike is too small to handle it! Touring companies are also wary of having me along due to my limited experience.

I commute to work each day on my Australian licence. I don't want to do the CBT as this means that I can't ride on the freeway which I need to to get to work.

CBT isnt worth it. it only teaches you the very basics of riding which you will have already covered by passing a bike test

try this place. was going to do a days training with this school but i just thought i can do four and a half tests and fail them before it would be more expensive than getting a two day training course with test included. in the end passed 2nd time failing on the first test because of no valid tax displayed on the bike.

how about something like a track day?

i also know that there is a place where ex-police motorcyclists offer advanced riding courses. a friend of mines dad did this fairly recently and although didnt benefit him a great deal as he has been riding for many years it did pick up on some technique issues that even experienced riders like him still have

Not sure if you know but as far as I know, you're Australian license would only be valid here for a year since you came over so if you're going to be staying here for longer, you'd need a UK license, so you should exchange your license for a UK one within five years of becoming a UK resident, as long as it is still valid. I don't think you'd have to do a CBT or any form of test as Australia is on the DVLA's list of 'Designated Countries'.

I'd assume advanced courses like Bikesafe or IAM require a UK license anyway. Saying that, you could just book lessons with an instructor at a local school or talk to someone you know over here who's been riding around the city for ages for a few tips.
