I have just bought a extenda fenda and it says i have to screw it into place! Does anyone else have one, is there another way of fitting is securely without making holes and screwing it in?
Cheers.

Yep, No More Nails type stuff works, you just need to hold it in place while it sets

nice one, my only concern would be to find one day the fenda extenda has come off whilst riding. Is this highly likely or highly unlikely?

Doubt it! I used some stuff from B&Q which described itself as "the strongest silicone sealant you can buy", I think it was called Hard as Nails or something.

I tried taking the Fenda Extenda off my old mudguard to put on the new one - Fuck that Shocked I'd have broken the mudguard before I got it off Laughing

Just screw it on, your not going to be taking it off and once on no one will notice the screws, especially if you paint the heads black. Wink

Also put a bead of sealant around the inside of the join to stop dirty water running down and making it look messy.

I used silicone sealant and double sided tape on mine. It didn't fall of.

Just make sure you give it a day or so to properly dry. Thumbs Up

The company i bought the fenda from recommend using sikaflex 221, so i have ordered some off ebay. Hopefully that will be strong enough and hold it in place pretty well.

i stick mine on with epoxy resin (Araldite etc)

wash both areas first, and it helps if you roughen them with sandpaper. Won't come off after that

I also bought mine off eBay (from Pyramid plastics) there was double-sided adhesive tape already on it. But I think the purpose of that was to hold it in place while you secure it with screws, personally I prefered to rivet mine and I don't think it looks too bad, but it'll never come off.

I drilled 3/32" pilot holes through both parts after they were located with the double-sided tape.

Put it this way, you can unscrew it, and the holes are tiny and filable, epoxy it, and it is most definately permanent Laughing

Look at it this way.
If you screw it on, you can remove it and there will only be a couple of screw holes and it should still be clean and smooth, you can than place a couple of rubber bungs in the holes.
You glue it, to get a good grip for the glue requires it roughing up. Should it fall off, or you want to take it off....
What state is that mudguard going to be in ?????

Drilling is easy, so long as you put some tape on the surface to stop the drill skidding. Thumbs Up

My fenda extender.
Take one 4 ltr bottle of milk and cut to shape and fit. Cost nothing as it was going in the bin. Effectiveness. As good as a £25 one, and who cares what it looks like as the rest of the bike is a mess anyway. Karma

Cleaned the mudguard with Gunk, stuck the fenda-extenda on, drilled 4mm pilot holes, and then pop rivetted with zinc plated washers on the exposed under-side, was a lot easier than I imagined.

I will have a look tomorrow at the drill bits i have.
Then i will stand looking at my mudguard debating with myself whether to glue it on, or screw it on. . .

I stood, and looked, stood and looked.
If i drill it would be best to take the mudguard off right?
And do i drill all the way through both mudguard and fenda extenda?
cheers.

I drilled mine whilst the mudguard on the bike, just don't go too deep and avoid the tyre. I think I used quite small metal drill bits (it does actually recommend a size I believe) just smaller than the thread.

It's very, very easy. Took 5 mins. Thumbs Up

Nah, done all my bikes with the mudguard attached, waste of time and effort taking it off.

Drilled mine with the guard on the bike, just turned the bars to full lock and drilled two holes each side. Even managed to get one up the middle damaged nothing, here's my manky effort:

ok, will try with mudguard attached. I am going to hate drilling into the mudguard though. Perfectly smooth, clean, unaffected or marked area soon to be drilled through Crying or Very sad

I had exactly the same doubts and fears, and thought it'd "spoil the look" or I'd really screw it up.

But, I didn't and when the bike is clean it looks quite good, it's also kept a lot of road dirt off the front of the bike, I'd hate to think how dirty it would be without one.

Remember smooth and steady, give it a go and let us know how you get on.
