I got pulled tonight, was probably going to happen sooner or later.

I admit I was driving like a dick, sitting at the lights on the Shore Road before Greenisland I pulled a wheelie (bad habit)... when I got just past the shop at the bottom of Greenisland they pulled me in an unmarked Passat.

Admitted right away I was driving like an idiot as I knew they had seen me but didn't mention anything about the wheelie in case they didn't see it.

She said right away it was dangerous driving not driving without due care and attention. I know it was careless but there was no traffic in front of me and it was a wide open road (no excuse I know)

Asked was it restricted, I said it was and she looked at me with a smile knowing rightly it wasn't. I played the nice guy as I knew I was caught red handed.

Got a producer for my license as I had nothing on me and she checked my insurance. Was filling out a statement asking what happened when I took off from the lights... I said I accelerated too quickly. She then said she seen the bike on the rear wheel... was tempted to say its always on the rear wheel as well as the front but didn't. Then she asked me how far I done it for and I replied not too far... what a dick Laughing She asked me did I want to change that, so I changed it to a short distance.

I was so tempted to deny everything but I think they had a camera in the car so didn't want to push my luck but either way I'm fucked...

Probably go to court, anyone any idea what I'll get?

I'm in Northern Ireland if that makes any difference in terms of law, I'm still restricted, with no points. 6 points and I get my license taken off me.

Mate, you should have said it wasn't on the back wheel, it was a trick of the light. Wink

You fool. Never admit anything. Can't believe you even made a statement about your own driving. In all honesty why did you do that?

I agree about the statement. If you don't admit to it then it's up to them to prove you did it, which they are unlikely to be able to do. That copper has been handed the evidence.

Too late now though. I also suggest seeking legal advice.

You're in damage-control territory now. Get a good brief if you don't want to be raped in court.

First things first.

Do nothing.

Wait for the charge to come through your door. Only then will you know exactly what you've been charged with.

Dangerous Driving is the worst offence you can be hit with (I know as i was charged with it about 18 months ago) you can get a custodial sentence for it which means you can do time. There is also a mandatory 12 month ban with an extended re-test.

Dangerous Driving:
According to current legislation, a driver is guilty of Dangerous Driving if:

* The way he or she drives falls far below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver; and
* It would be obvious to a competent and careful driver that driving in that way would be dangerous

When you get charged with it, ring a local solicitors and arrange an interview (you get the first hour free) hopefully you will get legal aid due to the nature of the charge.

The solicitors will advise you from there.

The 'good' thing with dangerous driving is that it's a crown-offence, so tried in front of a jury.

This means that they have to convince twelve members of the public what you were doing was dangerous, not a magistrate that's 'heard it all before'.

I'd agree with Dom for the moment; wait until you've got a summons, though I'd do some reasearch find some decent solicitors in your area, but not give them any money yet.
You've got 7 years to wait it out if you don't get anything, but expect it sooner than that.

Quite a while ago I got pulled for 119mph while undertaking, along with the fact it took them 10.5 miles to catch up with me, despite the fact I'd slowed to 70 only a few miles after they initially saw me.
I was lucky and nothing got done about it; not sure why and I'm not going to complain Smile.

You know when you read stuff and thought "That's WELL bad" before you got a bike and after riding one around for a bit you think "damn - going a little bit over the top is what I used to see as crazy riding".

What I'm trying to say is that all these highly punishable offences can be quite easily done without you actively going out to ride as stupidly as possible. Quite scary really Shocked

Unless it's changed you get the choice of magistrates or crown.

That's not what I was told some time ago (about 5 years now).

Luckily never had to test it out in the end.

To be honest it was 13 years ago when I last tried it out. Wink

I was sent to magistrates with my dangerous driving charge, they agreed to lower it to without due care & attention if I pleaded guilty though.
