Went for a ride out last week wiv a mate on his RFV, after leaving
him at South Godstone, started the charge up the A22 towards Croydon, the dodgy bit, dual carriageway with adverse camber, the first left hander
changed up to third at some silly speed, opened the throttle and within
10 seconds lost all drive Sad

Being stupid, the first thought was that the chain had snapped, managed somehow to navigate to the nearside lane and pull over.

After a few quick checks couldn't find anything wrong. By this time I had stopped the engine and nipped it into neutral! Drove home carefully without a repeat performance.

Speaking to my M8 in the evening, he said following me earlier I seemed
to be riding with my left foot under the gear shift Sad I realised that I had probably found a false neutral by slightly disengaging the gear with by toe Sad

I now ride using the balls of my feet on the rests,(No that is right not my Balls on the rests Very Happy )

What do guy's do? How do you ride?

I had a problem on my RVF where it wouldn't change up from 2nd to 3rd when being really caned, I'd click the lever up and nothing would happen. After all sorts of grave thoughts about various expensive gearbox repairs I realised my foot was stopping the lever coming back down after engaging second. Five minutes with a spanner had it adjusted properly and cured the problem... Doh! Laughing

I allways try and ride with the balls of my feet when I'm pushing it, son't bother on motorways etc. though. I've occasionally had my feet touching down when I forget and leave them stuck out while leant over, which is a good reminder not to do it again Smile.

Do any of you people sometimes find that Neutral is hard to find?...especially when you really want it?...I usually have to spend about a minute (quite a long time in the real world!) clunking from 1st into 2nd, and then 2nd into 1st etc...

Confused

that happens cos of the law according to sod... you're trying to show off and then its 'WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE' shit shit shit shit.

it's spiritual cousin is the 'not going into neutral' move, where you're up and down past it going 'i just want to park' and it'll have none of it.

i believe that furry neutral area exists just to embarass us every now and then.

Tin I used to have a similar problem with my VFR, but now I have mastered it....just a lttle blip of the throttle ...then engage neutral...no problem. Wink

Thanks for that tip! How many times have I embarrassed myself at, say...a adrive through petrol stattion and had to try to pay holding the clutch in! Embarassed

I'm with Bendy on this one - I have size three feet - not a great deal of choice how to ride really! Can only just reach the gear change anyhows!

my bike *zzr250* has a device called easy neutral shift on it, simply rise up from first with no pressure it goes into neutral without any effort at all first time, put any pressure on and it skips to second

that said my electrics have gone so i cant tell if im in neutral or not Crying or Very sad
shouldnt be to hard to fix but until then i have no horn, lights, indicators, rpm meter. Think i should get that fixed.....

My neutral light doesnt work Embarassed but it's still easier to find neutral on my bike than the RS125 nextdoor. I just give it a little flick up from 1st and its sorted, bit like the zzr mentioned above

Well I always ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs, feels a lot more controlled that way when i'm caning it..but on Motorways I sometimes just put the arch of my foot there so it's more comfortable.

I've got the opposite problem to Anna (size 13 boots!) so if i want to lean I have to put my feet up properly!

Does anyone else have trouble sometimes finding the rear brake when they ride like this? Maybe it's just me...Rolling Eyes

i fit my bike perfectly. size 10 feet, so i'm normal.
as for finding neutral, i saw mole havign a bit of trouble with it at BH. my gearbox is 20 years old the neutral is so worn in its impossible to miss, although it doesn't normally get stuck there when i'm moving.
