Have you tried a new spark plug? Cleaning the air filter? Cleaning the carb?
Worst case scenario is low compression, which leads to very difficult starting.....I'd try simple maintance things before a compression test though ____________________ Professional Hobo |

Hi mez,
I had a cg last year before i did my test, theres kind of a nack to starting them sometimes, depending on how cold i is put the choke up one notch (if its colder 2) even in fairly hot weather it needs a small amount of choke, push the kick start down NOT kicking, just push it down gently and pump it until it tightens up, when its tighter then give it a good belt and a little bit of throttle as you kick this was how i found it easyest to get the old dear starting!
Also make sure to give it a nice long warmup- i made the mistake of going for a cold ride and it was terrible, dieing at lights and allover the place.
Out of interest what mods have you made to the bike for off road? any? I was seriously considering getting another one for bad weather biking (i.e. snow) and off road action Theres no way i would have gotten rid if i'd had the money (though I did sell it for what I payed for it )
Edit: if you geting backfireing then it might need the carbs looking at or the plug like mattd said. |

Thanx everyone. I've done all that ^^^. Now she starts every time. Mods, I bought it as it is, but I can tell you that it hasn't got all that road crap e.g. lights, mirrors etc. but has got some knobblys. They are definitely fun in the snow, but remember: Ride safe in wet conditions. I didn't! ____________________ My deviantArt gallery - My Youtube profile

When I was a kid I had an XL125 frame without an engine. I happened to come across a CG125 in really bad condition, so I scrapped the bike and put the engine in the XL frame. Was an absolute blast. ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |

I have been on my CG today and gave her a twist and went straight through a ditch. It really hurt!! It might sound a daft question but does anyone have any tips on ditches? Also does anyone know of any good offroad places around the Wakefield kind of area? Thanx guys

I've found out how to handle ditches now. Still a bit tricky though! Does anyone know any good bike places around Wakey? Yo zero, did you have an old CG or one of those new ones?
PS how do i increase my karma? ____________________ My deviantArt gallery - My Youtube profile

It was a 98 model, APPARENTLY (just remembered this) the older cgs were more powerful by a couple of hp, the carbs were better apparently, might be worth looking into.
Best bet is to go out and get a rear sprocket with 2/4 teeth less or one/two less on the front though you will need a new chain too i think, it will make a BIG difference, though your top speed will be reduced your never going to notice)..
As for the karma
Use the spell checker, use capitals after full stops, don't quote entire bit of another persons post just the relevant bit... Thats pretty much all i have been doing anyways
hmm student loan coming, maybe its time i got a project bike/hack bike  ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Don't want to sound.. er... anyway, no-ones said anything since I put up that picture. Don't you like it or something? Its just you're not saying anything anymore. Anyway forget that. Does anyone live near Dearne Valley and have a crosser? There's some proper cool places there.
That pic of the CG ^^ isn't perfect. I bought it second-hand so the tank was not painted. I painted it red then with yellow flames over it at the front of the tank. Oh yeah, anyone know of some good varnish which petrol can't get through?

Ah i sort of miss haveing a kickstart... but i'd miss a lecy start more i think
They can be tricky to start, i though mine was dead for a while
Like i said, pull the choke up a little, too much won't get you going, to little won't get you going (unless its a very warm day, use more if its cold).. pull the kicker arm out, push down till you feel it resisting, only enough to move it down, then when it wants to stop let it click back up, keep doing this till its tight up to the top then give it a good blast and a little bit of throttle... this way it gives it the maximum kick with not much effort,if you pull the arm out then just kick you're only generateing 20% of the power you do when its been "pumped up" which makes it nigh on impossible unless you have legs the size of tree trunks...
Honestly it gets easyer, its mostly technique, and also looks cool when you do it first go
Mez - The tank, personally i'd get some black hamerite and rat it, if your going to get it reprayed get it done properly otherwise it will be in a bad state quickly, easyest thing would be to wait for a tank on e-bay and replace it with one in better contition perhaps? (or keep the nice shiney one for if/when you sell it on)
As for the pic, i love the cg, i wish i never got rid of mine and i will get one again when i get the chance, i remeber when i got it thinking its a beast and a half, ok maybe its not going to be snaping the elastic from the pants of girls you tootle past, but its allot better than a ped i.m.o. and rediculously cheep to run, i payed £1000 when i got mine but its almost as if i ripped the dealership off for how much fun i got out of it ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

It's ok. I think I know what to do now. I got clear acrylic and it looks like good stuff. Now all I've got to do is find that bloody Hammerite to repaint my tank!
P.S. Its nice to know that I'm not the only person who likes the CG. Its surprising how many people have had one. ____________________ My deviantArt gallery - My Youtube profile

So, what bikes have you guys got then? This CG is my first one. Before I got this one I was going to get a Honda C90 but I gave myself time to have a good long think about what I wanted. ____________________ My deviantArt gallery - My Youtube profile
