Hey guys.

I'm turning 16 next month and I'm looking to get a little moped. It would be great for work as i go to customers houses a lot also getting to college and back. Now i haven't really seen anything great, after all I'm looking for a 50cc bike. I don't want to spend more that £500 because as soon as i hit 17 it will be on to a 125cc scooter/bike. I have seen these cheap Chinese imports from https://www.mopeds.co.uk/50cc-moped.html What do you guys recommend? I know that most of you all have 'grown up' bikes lol. But your advice would be great Very Happy

Cheers Cool

Sadly i dont think a chinese one will last until you're 17 Laughing they are cheap, badly made and infamously unreliable. Go for something popular (aprilia, honda, suzuki, gilera) they all make decent scooters, go for something 2-stroke. Are you fussed between an automatic or manual moped?

i dont think they are unreliable, as they are based on bulletproof jap design.

everything attached to the engine is wank though and WILL fall off at some point.

Lol! More than likely.

I'm not that fussed to be honest about Auto or Manual, but auto would be preferred. I mean changing gears to get to 30 lol? I spoke to a dealer in Glasgow and he was wanting to shift used mopeds for around £800 or something. That is too much to spend for a bike il use for a year. You got an specific bikes for me? I dont know much about bikes at all!

Why 2 stroke? isnt 4 stroke better because you dont need to faff about with oil plus it sounds like a hair dryer? - Or has that just came from my arse Smile

butt a scooter is more practical,so i recommend a yamaha aerox or aprilia sr50.

The Aprilia SR50 looks good. Is that within my budget? Without getting a wrecked one?

Again with the 2 stroke do they not sound shit? This will be a total noob question how to do you go about the whole oil thing.

Thanks for all your input guys. Iv seen a few bikes on eBay and the like. Most of them seem abused. I know a lot of 16 y.o buy them and wreck them. I would rather get a new one with a warranty etc. Plus the https://www.mopeds.co.uk/50cc-moped.html doesn't seem that bad. Might be a bit cheap but it should last me a year of riding. Any other bikes you have seen new for that much?

Boatain, matt off here had one, his flywheel deciede to just jump out smashing up the casing and go racing up the road ahead of him. Must be really reliable and well built mustnt they? Laughing

Paid 150 for my first scooter. Lasted a year, no problems.

Scooters, though, are a tricky area. Obviously you have 16 yo buying the things, raging them to bits, then selling them on when they get bored a get cars.

I'd just get a Honda Cub, myself, is I was in the market for a ped. Yeah, it's an old man's bike, but it does the job, no nonsense.

Speedfights aren't bad and are pretty easy to work on.

Personally though, I'd go for an aircooled Yamaha.

There will be loads within your budget.

There is now a bigger issue than which bike. My dad says i will get killed so he isnt going to finance it. so that means i will have to save up (N) Dont earn that much per month.

Just looked on ebay for a Cub, there was no cub 50cc Sad

Spend £500 on a cheap Chinese import and guess in a year it woud be worth about £50.00 unless the price of scrap changes.

Look on ebay e.c.t. spend £500 on a 5 year old Jap scooter and guess what even in a year you would be lucky if you lost £100.00.

Know what I would do

bidding at £100 and reserve met

Buy in now £350.00
