How many time have you looked up to your screen to realise that everything you spent typing (except the first letter of sentences and proper nouns) is in capitals because the cap lock is on?
Ferrets are particularly skilled at locking caps BTW.
Get a knife and lift the key out and chuck it in the bin, you never use the thing anyway.

Couldn't agree more, but you got to learn one or another Thumbs Up

I do remember a kid at high school who use to remove the caps lock key on every computer he went to, and then would replace it when he left the computer.

This is a very mechanical approach to not being able to use current technology properly.

Funnily enough, when I started that sentence, is looked like "tHIS". My caps lock was on, but as i watch what I type, I just deleted it and started again.

Touch typing, and looking at the screen, is the way forward. Thumbs Up

I do, mostly at work when i'm writing programmes etc - i just find it easier to read in block caps.

Edit - forgot to add that some of the machines i write code for will only accept block caps.

I do and I also type with only one finger. I never had a formal computer lesson and have just had to pick things up by myself. My technique is not at all disabling and I can rattle off a 1200 word magazine article very quickly.

ok, well google "touch typing for beginners" or something similar

your life will be easier, and you may even enjoy the learning process

typing tests can be like a computer game, i can get about 50 words per minute

i can probably do about 30wpm with just my left hand

if you only use one finger, you are going to be really suffering and must be doing 5 wpm or something

This is the result of sixty seconds worth of typing with one finger and not looking at the screen , it is not that bad although I will not be able to spell check it or correct the spacing on a coma ......

Time up!

It may be easier Colin but who said life was supposed to be easy? One of my problems is that my fingers have all been broke a few times and are not over flexible and a couple have nerve damage so I can not feel the ends of them very well. I have tried touch typing but just could not get the hang of it so I am quite happy prodding away like a little Luddite Very Happy

Computer games are another thing I can not do as I lack the dexterity. Pianos and guitars are lost to me as well.

I never learnt to touch type but I can do it. Just takes time in a couple of years you might (only because of your finger issues) be touching typing like the rest of us. My go at the one min typing (excuse spelling and grammar mistakes:

Go, so this is me typing for one minute as quick as I can, while stilling trying to stop my mistakes. However I don't know how well I will do. I could just embrasse myself becuase of the silly spelling mistakes but it doesn't matter. The link that Gman posted was copied by my mate for his programming course work at university. It was a fun game.

Any way that was 67 words... but I wouldn't call that 67wpm, because you could just type what you wanted, a true test is when you have to copy something into the computer, without mistakes. Enough willy waving (and expects to get shown up by someone now).

Ok I am just really bored and don't want to revise for an exam tomorrow.

Edit: Just word counted yours Ariel, and you got 42, which is damn impressive in my eyes doing 1 finger looking at the keyboard typing. Thumbs Up

Touch type is for girls, real men use just two fingers and watch what they are doing.

I use 2 fingers, but I do venture out to a thumb for the space bar Mr. Green

Thats too close to call. I will have to check to see if the use of a thumb on the spece bar is gay or not.

Well after checking about the thumb use and it has been classed as ok due to th fact that you can use you thumb on a clit while having two fingers in the pink so that combination is manly.

I generally use 2 fingers. I also like the use of the head, the fist then the foot.

Added bonus is that this usually removes that pesky cAPSLOCK key.

Typing game collection

All flash games.

And I can touch type fine, although I loathe using a laptop from my bed where I have to feel around for reference keys (and fail). But normal use, perfectly fine.
