just wonder is this a good deal?

£35 a month, £150 for the handset (Nokia N96), via quidco i would get £90 back, so technically the handset would be £60.
https://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/catalog/extrasList.jsp?dependantSkuIds=sku180032,sku620032&phoneType=post&skuType=consumerPostpayVoicePlanSku&selection=phoneSku&initalFilters=flt_paymonthly&_requestid=1056086

this deal gives me more than enough mins and texts, but i like the fact i get unlimited mobile internet which i presume means i can watch youtube etc whilst out and about or use google maps?

thanks in advance, mobiles mean little to me and deals even less.

been doing some research and it seems that tomtom doesn't work on the n96 very well if at all.

might need to look into the htc hd diamond touch thingy now Sad

N96 is a waste of money anyway. It is basically a N95 with more memory, bbc iplayer and wearing different clothes.

Can't really reccomend any other phones but if you wanted a nokia N95 then i'd personally go for an N95 8gb off the bay.

My dad has the N96 and it's correct that at the moment you can't run TomTom on it.

He got his on PAYG brand new for £300. I'd go for an N95 personally which can be picked up for around £150.

Wrong

You can run tomtom on the n96 but only with an external gps unit, it will also run the garmin software and that will use the internal gps

Virgin did the Lobster phone that had a TV receiver in it. When I looked at the small print a licence fee of some description was needed to activate or validate the service.

Not too keen on the 96, I'd still opt for my old 95 out of the 2.

N96 firmware is buggy as shit, it's quite honestly as bad as the N95 was at launch (Ask any Carphone backbencher what they thought of that). The N95 8gb is the better option unless you just want the shinest phone out. Don't discount the E series phones either, the E71 and E66 are arguably better than any of the N series handsets the moment you start taking build quality and durability into the deal.

Windows mobile is currently a steaming pile no matter how much HTC try to disguise it, hopefully WM7 will level the field a bit, but till then... If you really do want to go down that route, get an older TyTN2 and get a custom firmware from XDA developers. You'll wind up with a far more dependable phone than any of the Diamonds.

Agreed on the N96 being bloody flakey. 3 friends who have upgraded are all complaining about phones locking up or turning off for no reason. Like you say n95 all over again. Why do Nokia still do this god only knows. They should get them sorted before release

really stuck for choice now.

i am restricted to either Vodafone or T-mobile due to reception issues.

i want the following features,
Wi-Fi
Sat Nav compatible, external aerial is fine, infact i'd prefer it
decent camera with flash.

more and more i am thinking of looking at the N95 8GB again, its just annoying that the N96 is newer yet worse.

Both are free on Vodafone, my preferred network.

Any advise on the sat nav side of thngs? would prefer tomtom but garmin is fine, all i want it for is the camera db really, rarely ever use it for routes (i do, but not often)

help?

go for the n95 then fella, then you have loads of software to choose from. tomtom,garmin,sygic,route66 all of which will use either the internal or external gps. plus all th other symbian stuff you could wish for

N96 will end up being fine...

In 6 months time Wink

If your not keen on the idea of an N95 8gb, maybe have a look at the LG Renoir, Nokia 5800 Xpress music or Sony Ericsson C905? All 3 have quirks and are obviously not as mature as the N95 is now, but they tick all the right boxes for what you seem to be after.
