Just found this on my local newspaper website.
I've removed the names so as not to prejudice a case under investigation involving the theft of my bike.

A burglar who preyed on homes across Reading to feed his drug habit has been given a chance to avoid jail.

A____y S______d, 21, was given a reprieve at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday when his sentencing was adjourned to get a character reference from his new boss, who took him on as a part-time binman three months ago.

Judge Mary Jane Mowat told S______d he could get a letter from his boss after hearing he had started the job to mend his ways.

S______d, who has a young child, told the court he quit drugs after he was charged for a number of house burglaries last summer.

On Tuesday he admitted handling stolen goods, burgling a house in Stokenchurch, and two charges of handling a prohibited weapon, namely CS Gas and a taser, between May 27 and May 29 last year.

He was also due to be sentenced for another burglary after his case was committed from Reading Magistrates’ Court last October, with the instruction of another 11 charges committed during September last year to lie on the file.

Judge Mowat said: “This does not mean you will definitely escape a custodial sentence, but I am willing to read the letter and see what it has to say.”

S______d, who will be sentenced on Friday, January 16, at Reading Crown Court, was released on the condition that he sleeps at his father’s house in Alston Walk, Caversham, that he complies to a curfew from 10pm to 6am and that he has no contact with L___e H_____d.

What a pile of steaming dog turd !

"Judge Mary Jane Mowat told S______d he could get a letter from his boss after hearing he had started the job to mend his ways"

Can't wait until he's back in front of her with my case to answer. Although he'll probably claim it was a present for his spawn.

F*cking british justice Thumbs Down Sick

Why are you blanking his name out ? And how would you copying from a newspaper site prejudice his case ?

I found out his name in 10 seconds, hardly rocket science is it ?

Looks like he's been found guilty anyway so whats the problem ? He's to come back for sentencing, nothing else.

He's identifiable by "jigsaw" identification from the other information you posted, so whether you print the name or not it doesn't make any difference.

To be honest though it makes no difference anyway, unless any members of the jury happen to be reading the forum.

Regardless of legal bits and bobs anyway, they've got the guy who stole from you and others so it can't be all bad.

If he genuinely is off the drugs (the probable cause of him robbing all the time) and now has a job i.e. generally trying to make a go of life, then I can't really see how sending him to prison is going to help anyone. Especially not his kid.

But then I don't know any of the facts, only what you have written.

Sounds fair Neutral

He should get a longer sentence for trying to blame it on the drugs Rolling Eyes.

What, you're suggesting that criminals take responsibility for their own actions? Heaven forbid!!! Surprised

Possibly, just possibly the lad IS trying to take responsibility for his actions, why else would he get a job?

Oh no thats right, he has got it so people feel sorry for him Rolling Eyes .

Maybe he is trying to change, and what the hell is wrong with getting a letter off his employer?......... He isnt asking not to be punished, just trying to do a bit of damage limitation.

If you had been a prat would you not try anything acceptable in your power to try and lessen your punishment?

If anyone says no they are lying through their bloody teeth.

Truth is people cant seem to make mistakes and do stupid things (whatever they may be) and then try and move forward. A lot of the time this is due to people not letting them.

And we wonder why so many people are c*nts, society needs to take a good look at itself.

EDIT......... This looks like a rant at mudskipper.

Its not!

If he's trying to take responsibility for his actions, has he contacted Bofh5 to offer to repay him I wonder?

Sounds like he's just trying to get out of it; when I got caught going a tad too fast and more, I planned to do IAM, not to slow me down, though I did want to do it anyway, but to look good for the judge etc.

However, if he truly has sorted his life out, then I'd prefer not to be paying £50k+ a year that it costs to keep someone in prison, though it doesn't make a good discouragement for others.

If he is changing, why pay for him to rot in jail as G says.

As in the article, he has NOT escaped shit, the court is willing to SEE his letter.

Interesting replies. Thanks everyone.

Ok i'll open this can of worms up a bit more.

This upstanding member of the community has a background stretching back years.
He has no respect for anyone or anything and is just trying anything to show the judge he's changing his ways.

To give those of you some perspective my wife was round the little shop last week when this stroker tried to to intimidate her with his little group of chavettes of dubious legal age (if you know what i mean).

She was a bit shaken up as she is only 5' 4" but won't be intimidated bless her.

So is he really trying to change?

I think we all know or have heard of this type and while some do change and i know of one who has its rare.

and as G said if he was truly remorseful for his part then why hasnt he tried to contact me even if it was just to apologise.

Instead i get sh1t from his chavvy mates and worry over my kids safety in case they get targetted.

No one said that.

Unless you know him personally thats your opinion, I have a record stretching back about 8 years, my life is different to what it was then.

If this is true then fair do's.

Who know's, I am pointing out he COULD be.

Bofh5 wrote:

So its rare for people to grow up and change?.... I have no proof but i would think people that continue to be prats all their life are not the majority.

You want the courts to punish him or do you want an apology?

Then report his mates. Rolling Eyes

Hi

Maybe the way to deal with it is that all people convicted of crimes are treated as being mentally unwell (after all, if they were not then they wouldn't have commited the crimes) and in need of treatment. And as such should be institutionalised for as long as it takes for the treatment to work and stop them reoffending.

Wink .

All the best

Keith
