Hey folks,

I'm on the lookout for a new lid as my current one (KBC FFR) is becoming redundant - I originally decided on a flip-front because I wore glasses but I now wear contact lenses. The KBC is way too heavy, very noisy and does not offer the chin protection that a proper full-face would.

Anyway, my budget isn't up to much and I found the LZ6, which seems to have quite a lot to offer. It's cheap, has a 5 star SHARP rating (although I'm not sure if that means a lot based on other things I've read) and can take a Pinlock. I'd like to know how any LZ6 wearers here are getting on with it. How noisy is it? I'm only on a 125 so I don't really go above 60mph. Most importantly, will I be able to fit my Scala Rider FM headset into it? Is there anyone out there using one? Does it have 'fluffy' bits where your ears go that I could stick the velcro speakers to?

Cheers!

I had one as my first helmet. I found it was comfy and looked good. I didnt notice that much wind noise. The only negative things are the clip to do it up seemed stiff and hard to use for a while but i got used to it and the other thing was the laquer over the paint wasnt very thick and it flaked off in places. I paid £65 for mine in 2006 so im guessing they are even cheaper now.

Hi asdf,

Thanks for the reply. I guess comfort depends on an individual's head shape/size. The buckle style fastener worries me a bit as I'd be paranoid about it pulling apart in a spill. I guess they're stress tested though but I really prefer double D rings. Not too bothered about the finish unless the deterioration affects the strength of the helmet. Do you remember what the areas around the ears were like? Did you have anything actually covering your ears or was there just an empty space like some lids have?

Thanks again!

I was going to buy one from harpers neil. But I ended up with the KBC Tarmac. I wanted the lazer, because it looked nice, and has the 5star rating. But I tried it on, and I wasn't really sure about the fitting (the guy working at harpers was bloody useless).
Side to side, it fitted fine. but from the front, moving it up&down (as if you were nodding yes up and down with the helmet but not moving your head) it had some movement.. maybe its just my head shape? but it felt like the chin protection wasn't low enough.

Thanks cicatrez,

I was served by a young lady there last year and she seemed to know what she was doing. Just looking at https://sharp.direct.gov.uk/search/details/?id=115 (for my current helmet) is making me cack myself. The chin guard only remained locked in 43% of impacts Shocked . I really can't live without my Pinlock and Scala Rider FM either. My head extends back a lot (meathead) so it might feel better for me. Only way to find out is to go try one on...

yikes, 43%. Full face all the way. I used to wear my glasses, but I never bother now because they fog up too easily. and I don't like to have the visor open 1 click because it feels like the wind is pushing my eye lids open. Doh!

Sorry i cant remember. I had a spill while wearing mine and the helmet took quite a bit of impact. I had no problems with the buckle coming loose. It did seem quite strong.

Hi my current helmet is a LZR Speedog. Great Helmets, had mine for a year and a half now and its still in great condition.

Pros: Really light on your head, great value, 5 star in sharks.

Con: Steams up quickly due to lack of breath guard.

Overall id give it 7/10 and say go for it!

Jonnnnn

Quick update:

Found some conflicting information regarding the LZ6 and Pinlock. The Pinlock website states that the LZ6 ships with a prepared visor, which is not the case. I spoke to Racevisors who confirmed this but then said that the universal DIY kit will be fine with it.

Update:

Just bought the Lazer Vertigo with some old graphics for the bargain price of £35 from a shop that specialises in selling older colours/graphics (this year's colours retail at £70). Cool It's 4* rated by SHARP and is has a Pinlock visor. Very comfy fit and other neat stuff like a breath guard and chin curtain to keep the draughts out and hopefully make it quieter. The graphics aren't bad either (not that I had much choice):

Cheaper than a current LZ6, but worth more in its current graphics/colours. A better featured lid IMO. Also took my Scala Rider without any problems. Thanks again everyone.
