We just got back from a long weekend in Iceland, so I thought I'd share a few pictures.

The beach at Vik formed by black volcanic sand; the most southerly part of Iceland. Head directly south and nothing gets in the way until the South Pole.

The Blue Lagoon, a spa created by 38 degree C geothermal water.

The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis); charged particles in the Earth's atmosphere. Unfortunately they were very faint this particular night. This was taken at almost midnight with a 30 second exposure.

Looks ace, was it 'cheaper' out there since the economy collapsed?

i went a couple of years ago and i can't wait to go back.

i went mid summer and it didn't get dark at all, so no northern lights when i visited.

how is it with the collapsed economy as it was extortionate when i went?

Getting there was surprisingly cheap:
https://www.icelandair.co.uk/offers-and-bookings/book-packages/packages/item189781/Iceland/

£250(ish) for flights and three nights accommodation. I was expecting an EasyJet type flight for that money, but it was very good with roomy seats, TV etc. The hotel room was basic, but clean and perfectly adequate. Food in supermarkets was about the same as it is over here. Restaurants were more expensive, but not incredibly so. We never actually made it into a pub at night because we were so late back from trips each day.

Excursions were fecking expensive. Anything worth doing cost a minimum of £50 and anything really worth doing was £150+. Simply staying in Reykjavik wouldn't really show you much of what the country has to offer so you kind of have to get out and about.

Thanks for the pics and info.
It's now moved up a few places in my places to visit before it's too late list.

Thumbs Up
