First off - 10 days after passing !

So it's a beautiful clear day, the sun is shining and I'm heading down a damp but not wet M1 at 9am when my fuel light comes on just before Woolley Edge services so I pull in. Just off the sliproad I decide I won't actually go into the car park stop, but will just go straight for the fuel ...... and drove straight onto an ice-rink at 20 mph or so !

The next thing I know the front end is going left then right and the the back's coming round and I'm sliding along the road with the bike on my left leg. Luckily the car behind me was able to stop in time and the guy inside and one of the carpark cleaners were able to lift the bike off me, because there was no way I could move it.

Once I'd got up and recovered I could see that the entire road was a sheet of ice (both guys that came to help were slipping on it) and people were even slipping and sliding when walking in the car park. Why they hadn't gritted is a mystery.

Damage isn't too bad, a broken peg, dented front wheel rim (no idea how that happened) and a split fairing from where my boot was caught under it, but on the whole the mushrooms did their job. Just waiting now for the garage to ring and tell me how much it is going to cost me.

So, is having an off 10 days after passing your test a record (probably not) ?

at this time a year maybe not, ive seen learners on bikes on the side of the road on the way to college its mostly country roads nd the odd a road where i am and there never gritted.

I came off at test -1 day, so I beat you by 11 days technically

Don't worry about it. I did exactly the same thing a couple of years ago at slower speed and with both feet down!

The garage should have a claim form for you to submit damages on. The surface of the forecourt is their responsibility.

Fairly sure one of the lads here had an off on the day of his test - but can't remember if that was '07 or '08

Two days after passing, I went out on my scooter for a change - braked too hard, too late, ended up saying hello to tarmac at 25mph.

Got up, cool as you like, back on the bike - on my way. Only damage: shattered mirror, the glass falling out a few metres further down the road. Although my ankle killed the next day. Had to put off my plans and just rest it.

100% rider error - Ijust wasn't paying attention.

I crashed on the way to my test. Front wheel suddenly felt very funny, decided to go around the roundabout then stop and be like wtf, went to lean to go around the corner, then I was on the ground, and a car drove between me and the sliding bike

Bloody thorns, costed me 100 squids that thorn.

Coming off comes to us all - my instructor used to say 'you will come off'. I did, and have dome several times since.

I did something similar a couple of weeks just before christmas, and I've been riding since '87

Glad your not hurt and the damage seems to be limited.

That's terrible. Do you live in north area? I am afraid of icey road surface!!! I would like to know if it's only in north cold area or it could happen also in south area.
